No Single Males!

There are plenty of Male/Female couples here on Affairlook. Like everyone else, they set their cupid preferences as they see fit, which is fine by me.

While some of these couples exclude single males from their cupid preferences, they even go so far as to put the phrase "No Single Males!" in the text of their profiles. I guess they do this so as to deter all of those single males from sending them messages by the bulk load. (Single males still comprise the largest demographic on Affairlook by a wide margin.)

Despite this phrase for deterrent purposes, I often see on a daily basis how some of these very same couples view my profile. As can be imagined, I find this a bit frustrating. Should I just respect this deterrent phrase and keep wondering if they are truly interested in me? Or should just throw caution to abandonment and initiate contact? Don't laugh, but this is a dilemma for me now and it has been for quite a while.

For those of you who can, please check out MeowMix29. I received a rather odd message from this person yesterday, and I'm now unsure if this profile is some sort of joke or what.

Last week, I was at a Wegman's store. There was Marmite stocked there, in the international foods area. I bought four jars and promptly left the store. Needless to say, I was thrilled.

I recently had the opportunity to watch a sitcom called "Spaced" on DVD. It was starred and written by Simon Pegg, whom some of you may know from his starring roles in the movies "Shaun of the Dead", and "Hot Fuzz". There were only fourteen episodes ever made of "Spaced", but each one was spectacularly written, edited, and produced. This show is the type that makes me wish that more episodes are forthcoming, but my sources say that this is not going to happen.

Video Introductions

I've had a video introduction Video 3
on my profile for about a year now. It has not even been viewed 300 times yet so far. I can only wonder now how many people here on Affairlook are even aware of this feature.

Do women enjoy these video introductions as much as the men apparently do? I ask this because it just seems to me that women on this who have video introductions just get so many more views than me, and it also seems that the bulk of my viewers are men also.

Sex as a Christmas Gift?

I just wrapped all of the Christmas gifts that I'm giving out today. As in years past, I spend a considerable amount of time and money doing so.

When it comes to Christmas gifts, they say it's the thought that really, counts, right?

So with this in mind, I was wondering if anyone is considering giving someone else sex as Christmas gift this year, or has done so already in the past. I'm wondering how this would best work out. Would a lengthy sexual encounter be considered a major gift, and just some quickie oral or handjob/fingering be considered a stocking stuffer?

"Generous"

Merriam-Webster Online has the following definition of the word "generous".

Main Entry: gen搪r搗us
Pronunciation: 'jen-r&s, 'je-n&-
Function: adjective
Etymology: Middle French or Latin; Middle French genereus, from Latin generosus, from gener-, genus
1 archaic : HIGHBORN
2 a : characterized by a noble or forbearing spirit : MAGNANIMOUS, KINDLY b : liberal in giving : OPENHANDED c : marked by abundance or ample proportions : COPIOUS [a thin salt-and-pepper moustache interrupted by a generous nose -- Richard Zabel]
synonym see LIBERAL
- gen搪r搗us損y adverb
- gen搪r搗us搖ess noun

When it comes to Affairlook and the lifestyles affiliated with this website however, what is this word understood to actually mean?

I take it to mean a thinly-veiled euphemism for another word, one that begins with the letter "p".

I'm not going to reveal the entire word here, lest the Affairlook blog reviewers decide that it makes this post unfit to remain visible for continued reading by whoever wishes to read it.

Here's a clue: think "world's oldest profession".

For whoever may disagree with me, I'd like to see what arguments could be proffered to the contrary.

It's okay, really...I used to be a fan of The Smiths

Every time I have found myself dealing with any of the assorted types of problems associated with making acquaintances and meeting others from Affairlook, I think back to my days of listening heavily to a band known as The Smiths.

The Smiths were a rock group active from 1982 to 1987. The group was based on the songwriting partnership of lead singer Morrissey and guitarist Johnny Marr. The Smiths were thought by many to be the most important alternative rock band to emerge from the indie rock scene of the 1980's. They have had a major influence on subsequent alternative music, including bands such as The Stone Roses, Radiohead, Blur, Suede, and Oasis. The group was notable in particular for two things: Morrissey's unusual, witty, and controversial lyrics, and Johnny Marr's music, which helped return guitar-based music to popularity during an era of synth-pop music.

For me, it is the lyrical stylings of Morrissey that have helped me cope with some of the troubles I have found from my dealings with others here on Affairlook.

Although superficially depressing, Morrissey's lyrics were often full of mordant humor for me, which I say can be a good thing. The lyrics of many of these songs to me were social statements of life, with everything from despair, rejection, and death.

So, if somebody perhaps thinks that they can say or do something hurtful to me or whatever, it's okay, really...I used to be a fan of The Smiths. Therefore, the song lyrics have already been conditioning me emotionally for your slings and arrows.

Standard members who view my blog

I sometimes wonder if the only reason some standard members view my blog is just so they can see my profile picture. It's not like I get all that many comments on my blog, so I just have to wonder.

So the poll question is this:

What's the primary reason that you view my blog and other people's blogs?
As a man with a standard membership, I like to read your blog because of what's been written in it.
As a woman with a standard membership, I like to read your blog because of what's been written in it.
As a man with a standard membership, I like to view your blog to see the picture, but I also like the blog itself.
As a woman with a standard membership, I like to view your blog to see the picture, but I also like the blog itself.
As a man with a standard membership, I do not care much about what your blog says - I just like seeing the picture.

I just read this Associated Press story today, one which sustains my own long-held suspicions. So here it is:

Health experts warn of obesity pandemic

September 3, 2006 07:28:25 PM PST

An obesity pandemic threatens to overwhelm health systems around the globe with illnesses such as diabetes and heart disease, experts at an international conference warned Sunday.

"This insidious, creeping pandemic of obesity is now engulfing the entire world," Paul Zimmet, chairman of the meeting of more than 2,500 experts and health officials, said in a speech opening the weeklong International Congress on Obesity. "It's as big a threat as global warming and bird flu."

The World Health Organization says more than 1 billion adults are overweight and 300 million of them are obese, putting them at much higher risk of diabetes, heart problems, high blood pressure, stroke and some forms of cancer.

Zimmet, a diabetes expert at Australia's Monash University, said there are now more overweight people in the world than the undernourished, who number about 600 million.

People in wealthy countries lead in overeating and not doing enough physical activity, but those in the poorer nations of Asia, Africa and Latin America are quickly learning bad habits, experts said.

Thailand's Public Health Ministry, for instance, announced Sunday that nearly one in three Thais over age 35 is at risk of obesity-related diseases.

"We are not dealing with a scientific or medical problem. We're dealing with an enormous economic problem that, it is already accepted, is going to overwhelm every medical system in the world," said Dr. Philip James, the British chairman of the International Obesity Task Force.

The task force is a section of the International Association for the Study of Obesity, a professional organization of scientists and health workers in some 50 countries that deal with the issue.

James said the cost of treating obesity-related health problems was immeasurable on a global scale, but the group estimated it at billions of dollars a year in countries such as Australia, Britain and the United States.

Among the most worrying problems are skyrocketing rates of obesity among , which make them much more prone to chronic diseases as they grow older and could shave years off their lives, experts said.

The in this generation may be the first in history to die before their parents because of health problems related to weight, Kate Steinbeck, an expert in 's health at Sydney's Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, said in a statement.

Experts at the conference said governments should impose bans on junk food advertising aimed directly at , although they acknowledged such restrictions were unlikely to come about soon because the food industry would lobby hard against them.

"There is going to be a political bun fight over this for some time, but of course we shouldn't advertise junk food to that makes them fat," said Dr. Boyd Swinburn, a member of the International Obesity Task Force.

Dr. Claude Bouchard, president of the International Association for the Study of Obesity, an umbrella group for medical organizations dealing with weight-related and 's health issues, said the group supported advertising bans as official policy.

But the policy position is unlikely to have any immediate effect on influencing governments to introduce such bans, said Bouchard, head of the Pennington Research Center at Louisiana State University at Baton Rouge.

So, there it is, a report which basically says that the entire world is getting fat.

When it comes to Affairlook however, I can only wonder why it seems that I only see trim bodies in the pictures of the profiles from Latin America, Asia, Eastern Europe, and elsewhere.

"Well, maybe the 'extra padding' folks in those countries just don't post pics of themselves as often if at all," someone might say.

Yes, I considered this also, so does this simply mean that we here in North America, the UK, and other English-speaker-majority countries of the world have just become more accepting of such body types?

Well, there, I've said it all now, I guess.

I am now bracing myself for a barrage of critical slings and arrows.

"Women" versus "Woman"

I'm just so sick of seeing this, so here's my rant for a particular error, one which I see just all too often here on this site.

You might be asking yourself now, "What does he mean?"

It's simple, really.

The word, "women" denotes a plurality of adult females, a group thereof perhaps, and certainly NOT an individual adult female. The correct word for an individual adult female would be "woman". Note how changing just one vowel makes the distinction.

I think I had a grasp of the difference between the singular and plural forms of the word "woman" before I was even five years old. So why is it that so many people on this site, many of the adult female persuasion themselves and ostensibly so much older and wiser, cannot make this distinction?

On profiles and elsewhere on this site, I keep seeing sentences like, "I am a women who...", and "This women wants...", or also, "I would like to find a sexy women for..."

Clearly, those who write such sentences were using the plural context of this word incorrectly, based upon simple rules of English grammar noun-verb agreement.

Is it just me, or does this all seem to suggest further evidence of the "dumbing down" of the world at large?

My First Affairlook Funeral
Posted:Jul 9, 2006 9:44 am

I went to my first Affairlook funeral service last Friday night. It was for the husband of a couple who I met through this site, ones whom I've known for two years.

He was only 56 years old.

He was a smoker. He seldom went to see his physician, even after unexplicably fainting one night while we were all at a bar together.

For those of you who smoke, and especially those of you who smoke and also avoid seeing a doctor regularly, consider this:

Imagine one day on a sunny Sunday afternoon, a day that you've spent doing some of your favorite leisure activities with your spouse or partner, things like reading, gardening, or riding your bicycle, or whatever, and then you go home, ready to prepare and enjoy a nice home-cooked meal. Then you feel like you perhaps may have some gas pain, so you excuse yourself and head to the bathroom. It's there that you still can't decide what's bothering you, so you leave the bathroom and go back to the kitchen, but it's too late. You suddenly collapse and die from cardiac arrest, right in front of your spouse or partner. Your spouse or partner tries to revive you with CPR, but you've already passed, nearly a full 20 years prior to what's supposed to be the regular life expectancy here in the United States.

The only clues that are later determined to be your cause of death are heart disease and hypertension.

Murphy's Law on A F F

Murphy's Law on Affairlook is when:

1. Women whom I find to be very very attractive never tell me that they find me to be attractive, yet the women whom I don't even know what they look like, because they have no pictures on their profiles, tell me that they find me to be attractive.

2. Women with whom I find a lot in common with are either unavailable to meet me, uninterested in meeting in real life, or are interested in meeting me, but just also happen to live 1000+ miles away from me.

3. Women who write to me looking to meet up wait until I go away to travel on business, but their profiles are either turned off or deleted by the time I get back home.

Does anybody else have any examples of Murphy's Law at work on Affairlook?
