Wow... I keep forgetting I have this blog thing. Ah well. Having found it again, may as well put something up.

With spring well under way, things have been going rather well. Sure, maybe I don't have any new prospects (of any variety). Sure, one of my classes is trying its damnedest to give me enduring headaches (CALC I. Sure, I have as dull a life as I did before spring break.

But I've made new friends

Not exactly what I expected from this site, but I definitely can't complain. Hidden among the wide array of people only looking for cyber (and nothing else) and the people with cams either locked on their crotches or their faces (and doing little with either), there are some genuinely cool people wandering around.

Looks like honesty is a virtue after all.

No, no interesting stories. No trips to places near water and scantily-clad women. Very little alcohol. Just rest.

Yeah, I know, boring, huh?

Well, not for me. During my much needed break, I managed to not only catch up on lost sleep, I remembered just how much I enjoyed being nocturnal. Sleeping through the day. . .

Still, that's not to say the week was a bore. I got away from the house (invading friends houses instead), played games, caught up on fun stuff I'd been putting off, just hanging out. . . ya know, normal stuff.

Of course, on the flip side, I did get a bit irked by the fact that my friends came to the general consensus that I need to get laid. The most irksome part: they're kinda right. It's not as though that almost 5 year dry spell ended last week. And those thoughts are still in the back of my head.

But, what can I do about it? Not like I have time to go prowling about. OK, maybe I do, but I really, REALLY hate bars and clubs. Ah well. Guess it's not too pressing an issue yet...

Well, after having enjoyed a bit of time here, I must say I've had a great deal of fun. Met a few interesting people, played more than a little in chat, and generally found myself enjoying much this site has to offer (at least as far as standard member privileges go).

A special mention goes to the FMN crew. Some of the best writers on here, rather hospitable bunch (despite the occasional rush of people who forget to read the rules), and otherwise very enjoyable to be around.

Course, I find myself confused by my access to the FMN forum being denied. The comps I use often do strange things where Affairlook is concerned (had to get to my blog through the history file!), but . . . I wonder if I did something wrong. Sure, I probably sounded bot-like, saying 'hi' to people as they came in and little else, but surely that's not it.

Hopefully this is just some tech error and I'll be able to get back into the room soon. If not . . . well, it was fun while it lasted, right?

Well, didn't have much of a plan when I started typing, but something may yet take shape.

Just wondering, but does it bother anyone else that older films are getting remakes and 're-imagings' and other such nonsense? Correct me if I'm wrong, but if a film was good as it was, is there really a reason to completely re-imagine it for (insert rationalization here)?

For example, imagine if they redid "The Day the Earth Stood Still", inverted Klaatu's attitude and changed his message, reversed the tone of the film, and updated the special effects. It wouldn't be the same movie, or would be a pale imitation at best. Oh wait! They did that and cast a no-talent to play the role of Klaatu.

What's next? A re-imagining of Rocky Horror? Is Dr. Strangelove safe from the hands of these idiots looking to cash in on other people's ideas? You never know.

While I'm at it, why would one take a book, especially one of some level of fame/repute, steal its name, then apply a plot that not only doesn't follow the book, but has nothing to do with it? And worse, why would they make it run completely counter to the spirit of the writer's works? "I, Robot" was a textbook example of this. Admittedly, I have yet to finish the book, but the movie lacked the feel of any of Azimov's writings (at least from what I've read and from what more well read colleagues have told me).

*sigh* I'll never understand the need to recycle old ideas in Hollywood...

Well, I must say, after one week of having rediscovered my profile (rather not admit how long I've neglected it), I'd say I'm going to enjoy it here. There seem to be quite a few nice people (or at least the ratio of nice people to total morons is favorable), and I've managed to get advice on a few things, made a new friend or 2, started messing about with the e-mail system here, even had my first experience with cybersex in around a year.

However, this experience got me to thinking: what constitutes good cybersex? Sure, it helps when all involved parties can spell. Literacy is a basic requirement, after all. But what makes it good? Talking dirty? Well written imagry? Romanticism?

Not that too many bother to read this blog, but what do y'all think?

As I was recently reminded, occasionally cybersex can be worth the time. Sure, my view's probably biased (what with my being on a nearly 5 year dry spell), but hear me out.

First, it would seem that a respectable percentage of those on here aren't necessarily here to meet people in person. Some are already attached and looking for a bit of non-physical fun on the side, some are a bit shy/paranoid/otherwise opposed to actually meeting people over the net, and still others find people well outside their range and have to make do.

Second, it's safe and harmless. After all, unless you're with a particularly jealous or prudish type, since nothing really happens, and nothing can really come of it, no one should really mind. After all, its just text on a screen.

Third, occasionally you'll run across someone that can actually write. Someone with respectable grammar and spelling that also has a gift for description. These experiences can be quite memorable. Yes, for those of you that refuse to use grammar or punctuation and can't spell to save your life, this is a hint: LEARN.

I'd like to hear others' thoughts on this, or perhaps any relevant stories (good or bad) y'all might have.

Well, everyone makes mistakes. Seems I'm no exception. Despite the fun I had today in the chat room, (Major applause to sexy_hisp26 and her partner) I was kinda dump and broke the contact info rule. Got myself banned for a day. Not too big a loss, and given all I got to watch this afternoon, it was definitely worth it.

Suppose when the ban's lifted, I'll be back on chat, and not passing my info around. Lesson learned.

Learning to Relax

Gotta say, the chat here is rather fun. No, not that kind of fun (so far)! More like relaxing. Enjoyable. Even funny at times. Most importantly, that humor's definitely loosening me up a bit. I mean, were this going on in a crowded bar or something like that, I'd find it noisy and oppressive. In chat, I can actually enjoy myself.

Special thanks to Sweet1 and Laughter for really making my morning. If y'all're reading this, you two play off each other beautifully. It was all I could do a couple times to avoid laughing out loud. Thanks y'all!

Probably shouldn't be, but I must say I'm a bit surprised by what I've found wandering around this site. People seem helpful, there's a seeming lack of antagonizers, and for lack of a better way of putting it, I've seen a surprising lack of stupidity.

Quite an achievement for any website, really. Reasonable people visibly outnumbering morons. I think I'll be looking about a bit more often.

Just wondering: does being an educated person improve your appeal? Not the reason I'm perusing higher education (fun and potential profit being my reasons), but it'd be nice to know it helps in other ways.
Of course it does!
Well, maybe a little
Not really
Kinda takes away, really
The dumber the better!
