this is a space where i'll post stuff, sometimes words from music i've listened to and have a special meaning at that particular moment in time, sometimes my own writings, sometimes jokes, sometimes rants... bare in mind that english is not my first language though, and overlook the weird stuff that might come out some times....

more than any time in the recent past, Candide's question begs an answer:
"If this is the best of all possible worlds, what are the others like?"

Every path is slippery. But, falling doesn't harm that much... we get up, we climb back, we get back on to our feet! The running around messes with everything, life is like this: warms up and gets cold, tightens and releases, goes placid and then goes mad again.
What life requires is courage. What we need to do is to be happiest on happy times, and happier when the sadness kicks in.

Smile. Your smile is your best weapon and your best tool. When you have nothing else left to give, you have your smile. Nobody can fake it, nobody can take it.
Smile. It is the small drop that will cause endless ripples in time. And somebody, somewhere, will always remember. Not your words, not your looks. Your smile.
Smile. It is the light that shines, the beacon that guides. And when everything else fades away, your smile will remain.

Technological advance is not the only hallmark of the beggining of the third millennium. Relationships are also going through major changes and revolutionising the concept of love.
What most people look for today is a relationship that is compatible with the modern times, where individuality, respect, joy and pleasure from being together are all present, and not a relationship based on dependency, where on part is responsible for the other part well being.
The idea that someone is the key for our happiness, that was born with Romanticism, is destined to disappear in this century. The romantic love exists on the premiss that everyone is incomplete, and have to find their other part to be complete. Frequently, there's a depersonalization process, which historically affected more the women. She abandons her individuality to merge on to the masculine project.
The idea of attraction between opposites also comes from the same concept: the other part has to know what I don't know. I'm shy, he/she has to be outgoing, and so on. It is a practical, survival idea, but not very romantic.
The buzzword of this century is partnership. We are replacing the love by necessity with the love by desire. I like and want the company, but I don't need it, which is completely different.
With the technological advances, that require more time alone, people are losing the fear of being on their own, and learning how to live with themselves. They are becoming to realise that they might feel like a fraction, but they are whole. The other, with whom you establish a connection, also feels like a fraction. Is not a prince charming or a saviour. Is a travelling companion.
The human being starts by changing the world, and then has to change itself, to adapt to the world it created. We are entering the age of individuality, that has nothing to do with egoism. The selfish has no own energy, it feeds from the energy of others, be it financial or moral.
This new form of love has new aspect and significance. It aims for the proximity of two wholes, instead of the union of two halves. And it is only achievable to those who work on their individuality. The more competent someone is to live on their own, more prepared it will be for a relationship.
Solitude is good, be on your own is not shameful. In fact, it gives you dignity. Good relationships are very similar to be on your own: there's no demanding from either side, and both grow together.
Everyone should be able to be on their own to stablish an internal dialogue and find their personal strength. Only when we are alone we can understand that harmony and peace of mind can only be found within ourselves, and not from others.
When we learn that, we become less critical, more understanding about differences, respecting how other people are.
The love between two people that are whole is much more healthy. With this type of connection there's closeness, pleasure of being together and respect for the loved one.

i know, but really shouldn't

I know we get used to things. But really shouldn't. We get used to live in a small flat and have no other view than the other flats around. And because we have no view, soon get used to not look out of the window. And because we don't look out of the window, soon get used to not opening the curtains. And because we don't open the curtains, we soon get used to turn the lights on early. And as we get used, we forget the sun, forget the fresh air, forget vastness.
We get used to wake up with a gasp because it's time. To have breakfast in a rush because it's late. To read the paper on the train because don't want to waste the journey. To eat a sandwich because there's no time for a meal. To leave work only when is night time. To snooze on the train because are tired. To go to bed early and sleep deep without actually having lived the day.
We get used to wait all day and then hear on the phone: not tonight. To smile to people without being smiled back. To be ignored when we really wanted to be seen.
We get used to pay for everything we want and everything we need. And to work hard to have the money to pay. And to pay more than what things are worth. And to know we will always pay more. And to find more work, to make more money, to have the money to pay in the queues.
We get used to pollution. To offices with air conditioning. To the smell of cigarettes. To the artificial lights with their flickering. To the shock in the eyes from sunlight. To the bacteria in tap water.
And we get used to far too many things, to stop suffering. In small doses, trying not to notice, we put away a pain here, a resentment there, an anger elsewhere. If the water is too cold, we just stroll on the beach. If the cinema is too full, we sit on the front and twist the neck a bit. If work is too hard, we think about the weekend. And, when with the ones we love, at night or weekends, there's not much to do, we go to sleep early, and feel glad because got a couple more hours of sleep.
We get used to avoid the roughness, to conserve the skin. Get used to avoid wounds, bleeding, to shield the heart. We get used to spare life.
Life that gets gradually exhausted, and wears off the more we get used to things, and gets lost from itself.

Love is not appropriating of others to make yourself whole.
It is giving yourself to make the other whole.

every pleasure is an addiction, because everyone is seeking pleasure in life, and the only sombre addiction is to do what everybody else is doing.

Let's be war buddies Waist deep in big muddies side by side I'd be the atheist in your foxhole, anytime
Let's be friendly fire Body count's a mountain on a bed of barbed wire, coldly stacked As soon as the morning light has broken, then we attack If nobody tries too hard to kill you I got your back
Across the desert Back to brave the burning sand Back to question every effort Back to challenge your command If you got guns, well, now's the time for sticking Resistance is already forming The second shot won't be a warning
Let's be collateral damage Looking down your nose like it's the best you can manage just to stand Indignity after indignation The threat of a hostile occupation The better to form a sovereign nation Here's the plan:
Let every man who disagrees Be roughly brought down to his knees Be starved to death and made to freeze And sentenced to the Gulag If you got guns, well, now's the time for sticking Resistance is already forming The second shot won't be a warning
When the tanks roll into Warsaw, will I find you at the front Singing into a tape recorder, shouldering the brunt of the attack? Has it come to that? Has it come to that? Has it come to that? Has it come to that?

Can you see me Floating above your head As you lay in bed Thinking about everything That you did not do Cause saying I love you Has nothing to do with meaning it
And I don't trust you Cause every time you're here Your intentions are unclear I spend every hour waiting for a phone call That I know will never come I used to think you were the one Now I'm sick of thinking anything at all
You ain't ever coming back to me That's not how things were supposed to be You take my hand just to give it back No other lover has ever done that
Do you remember The way we used to melt Do you remember how it felt When I touched you Oh cause I remember very well
And how long has it been Since someone you let in Has given what I gave to you
And at night when you sleep Do you dream I would be there Just for a minute or two do you?
You ain't ever coming back to me That's not how things were supposed to be You take my hand just to give it back No other lover has ever done that
Heartache heartache I just have so much A simple love with a complex touch There is nothing you can say or do I called to let you know I'm through with you

isn't a good feeling when you think you screwed something up, and after a while you realise how dumb you were, and go back and fix it?
even more so when this thing is a friendship...
