November 8, 2014 will mark my 1 year when I survived my heart attack. I have learned a lot since then, come a long way per my heart doctor, and still ways to go with healing and living my life that was almost taken away without notice.

Since then, I have been hospitalized 4 times, Feb 2014 - Diagnosed with Chronic Bronchitis, May 2014 - After Mother's Day, diagnosed with COPD, May 2014, 9 days after being released early in May and it was on my 47th Birthday. - drained 1.5 Liters of fluids from my right lung, received my internal defibrillator, August 2014, drained 1 liter from my left lung area.

I have had 2 defibrillator tests, which turned out great. I have learned I can longer do my favorite activity - riding roller coasters. Of all the changes in life, that is the tough one to swallow. My older brother came into town end of September. I managed to go to Kings Island with him, my younger brother and his family (wife, niece, nephew) and my mother. I said that spending time with my family is priceless than riding rides. Yes, I only rode 3 rides, kiddie rides. LOL.

So here's to my first year of healing and a better year in 2015.

Thanks for reading.

The power of the human heart

I'm a GWM, 46 years old and on November 8, 2013, I woke up at 5:20am (EST) sort of breath. The middle of my chest felt like a knot was there and I thought I was experiencing a stress attack. I took myself outside, which was a very cold Friday morning, hoping fresh air will ease the tension in my chest. I thought about calling 911 but decided to go back to sleep as I had about 2 hours of sleep. After 2 hours and 40 minutes, I began my day at work; which only lasted 5 minutes as my co-worker whisked me away to the nearest Emergency Room. 5 minutes later, I hear, "You are having a heart attack."

January 8, 2014 will mark 2 months since my double bypass heart surgery. The doctor told me on December 13, 2013 that patients he has seen never make it out of surgery with the same heart condition I had. He and I are both happy and pleased with my recovery.

The power of the human heart is something one does not realize until one experiences the healing factor after cardio surgery. Walking is my thing and now I can only walk about a block before losing my breath. The other point is sex. Having any kind of sexual activity increases the heart rate. It sucks for me right now as I have to take it easy, but I still have my fun by myself as I believe sex is an activity that can strengthen the heart -- just don't overdo it in one night.

Feel free to add any comments or suggestions if you have had heart surgery. Would love to hear from other members. I know my functions will get better in time.
