Well, its a new year and a new life for me.
Having commenced my discharge leave from the Navy I'm a free man again, for the first time in 17 years.
Not sure what I'm going to do as yet, but its a big world and experiencing it in full is the only way to go.
Looking forward to keeping you updated as I go

Brooks And Dunn

After seeing Brooks and Dunn in Brisbane I thought I was very lucky to have been able to witness just how amazing they are in concert. You could see why they are on top of their selected field, country music.
How surprised was I when upon returning home to Sydney I found out that they were to play on Sunday Sunrise on Channel 7 live from Breakie Central in Martin Place in the CBD....I was so excited, Martin Place is only two blocks from my apartment.
I wandered down the the studio this morning and with a few other fans, mostly in western garb, we got to watch Brooks and Dunn play 'Proud of the house we built' from outside the building.
I thought that was cool enough, but upon waiting a few minutes outside, Brooks and Dunn actually came out and both signed peoples items and were more than happy to be in photos.
I got my CD covers signed by both Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn and also got a few good photos of them.....unfortunately I was by myself, so didn't end up in any of the pictures with them, but I still had an amazing morning.
Anyone going to see them in their final concert tomorrow in Sydney Acer Arena are going to be blown away.

Well, I'm back ashore and ready for a break. It was fun being at sea but looking forward to getting a social life again now I'm in a more stable position

Overseas Trip

Well, I've booked my overseas trip to the States and I really can't wait until November. In the short period I have before having to go back to work, I get to visit five cities in the USA, six States and one over the border town in Mexico (Tjawana).
I start off in San Franciso, checking out Alcatraz and using those cool trolley cars. Next I zip down south a little way to San Diego where I get to visit the zoo and take a trip over the border to Tjawana, Mexico.
After relaxing there for a few days I fly overland to Washington D.C to check out the monuments and of course that really cool White House everyone seems to talk about.
Whilst I'm there I'm going to pop across to Virginia and visit the national cemetary, Arlington.
Next stop is New York where I'll take in a couple of broadway musicals and shows before checking out a really big statue and some even bigger buildings.
Finally I'm off to Las Vegas where I get to see three of my favourite country bands, Big & Rich, Trace Adkins and the Charlie Daniels Band. Plus, well, I'm in Vegas, whats not to like about a place like that. I have tours of Hover Dam and a couple of ghost towns, I'm going to love it.
Unfortunately, after all the excitment I have to return to work for a few days before taking a Xmas break, but at least I'd have had some fun in the meantime.
Looking forward to telling everyone about my trip in the future.....will keep you posted.

Hey everyone, I'm back online and back in Sydney. Its been a busy couple of months on patrol in the Northern waters, catching illegal fisherman and protecting Australia's natural resources.
I'm back in Sydney for a few weeks before heading off on the final four week patrol of the year.
Looking forward to the end of November, I'm flying off to San Francisco and then Las Vegas for a few weeks to enjoy a break and get away.
Looking forward to chatting with you all again, nice to be back.

The Joys Of A New Car

I went up to Brisbane recently, on a whim, and sold my car. It was a Lancer with only 8000 K's on the dial but I wasn't really happy with it from day one. It drove ok, never gave me a problem, I just didn't like it.
So, I've gone back to Toyota. 3 of the 4 vehicles I've now owned in the past 7 years have been new Toyota's so it was nice to go back into the fold as it were.
I picked up a nice new 2007 Rav4, Storm Grey (picture attached) and I'm extremely happy with it. It just feels right.
Well, thats it, just wanted to share my excitment with the rest of you.

Well, I'm back.
It seems being posted ashore wasn't for me when I was crash posted to a mine hunter at short notice last month (6 hours). But despite my initial reservations at such a short notice posting, I've ended up enjoying it immensely.
I'm now on a months leave (respite they call it -I call it bumming around leave) before heading up north again next month.
Things are looking up. I have the sea spray back on my face, the additional sea going money, and plenty of travel. What more could a man want?

Well, I'm back from Brisbane today. Back to my apartment, my gadgets, freedom and privacy.
Whilst I love visiting family and friends there is nothing like coming home. There's a calming effect in your house, its yours, your domain.

Not so 'Happy Feet'?

I went and watched Happy Feet today, and I must admit I was really surprised. What I expected to be a lovely, orientated animated musical was, for the most part, a sad politically motivated (at least in my mind) movie.
Don't get be wrong. The songs were great, there was some very funny moments and the animation was simply stunning. But there was definately a darker side to the movie.
The main character, Mumbles, is ostrisized by the colony, his father and even his school teather. He spends most of the movie being looked down upon and ignored as a joke of the colony. Mumbles never gets fazed though. He dances through the movie with a cheerful disposition which is refreshing.
The dark side of the movie revolves around religious beliefs, blind divotion to those beliefs and, in the second half of the movie, how humans are evil environment destroying creatures (which of course we are). We even have the UN coming in to save the day, woohoo to them.
All in all, I came out of the movie feeling less like tapping my feet and more like picketing the catholic church whilst hoping the UN would come and save the day, and ever animal in sight.
Underlying themes in movies are great, they make you think and you still enjoy the movie, this one though makes you forget the fun and music.

And so it begins

This is supposed to be where you put your thoughts down and hopefully share something in the process. Seems easy enough, although it isn't. Whilst I have all types of random thoughts running through my mind, by the time I try to put them down on paper (or here) I've started to think too deeply on them and they loose their spark. Do other people have this problem? Do you decide on a particular subject and simply ramble on about it? Maybe I should try that. At least then I won't seem like a mad man simply having an internal monologue running within a blog.
So. Where to begin. Well, I guess I'll start with me. I'm a Sailor without a Ship. Yes, thats that sad truth. In the Navy you are required to complete a minimum of sea-time (posted to a ship) and then a minimum of shore-time (posted to a shore establishment). I'm currently stuck in the latter. Having just completed two fantastic years at sea I have been told I must remain ashore for a minimum of 12 months to rest and relax (Thats code for work more and earn less).
This will of course, give me the opportunity to be the social butterfly I know I can be (give me a break) and allow me to recuperate before sailing into the sunset again.
Maybe it isn't too bad after all. Only time will tell.
