To Fence or Not

So we have added 2 new energetic dogs to the home and in the past I have been successful in getting new dogs to stay primarily in the yard. They are sisters and terriers, so that’s part of the dynamic. They are having a tough time staying in the yard as they play and chase each other expanding their play area outside our yards borders.

Living in a subdivision.

So it would be one of the reasons for the fence.

The other reason is the neighbor one the one side. I have lived here for 30 years and so have they. He likes to blow his leaves into my yard. So to prevent this continuing habit, one idea is to prevent him from this bad habit by erecting a fence. The city and subdivision allows this with permits.

I will be moving forward with this as it will be good for the dogs, they love to run, so it will provide a safe area for them to do that and it will prevent the neighbor from continuing his bad neighbor policy of blowing the leaves in his yard my way instead of picking them up.

What do you think, what might you do?

Yup.....build the fence, both very very good reasons.

I have that same neighbor, I am not living there at the family home, but my landscaper caught him. So yes....by next spring i too will have a fence erected. Im not paying the maintenance for his leaves any longer...ugh !!

I enjoy having my big fenced yard. It lets the dogs run free whenever they want. When they get to chasing and playing they get distracted. I had one dog who was extremely well behaved and never strayed chase a squirrel before I called him back he got hit be a vehicle. My neighbours down the road have an invisible fence but that wouldnt solve the leaf problem.

Solution to ur assh* neighbor, bag'm up and stack on his porch, back of his p/u or in his car if it's open! Why spend ur money for his sorry ass......
When u have a neighbor like that the only way to deal with is in direct hits!

I have Great Danes so I have a fence. I remember moving in here years ago and paying almost $3K to have a fence installed around the back yard the first week I moved in. It keeps the deer out and the dogs in.

Elevate me...

I have some acreage and always let my dog run free. Now I'm rethinking that after a coyote got her yesterday out in the woods. Just remember, a fence not only keeps your dogs in, it keeps the predators out.

Mine are on the leash and if off the leash in the backyard. I back up to woods. But I still have not had success in getting them to stay in the property lines 100% of the time. When I take one out at a time, they are better listeners.

Moving forward with the fence for a number of reasons. Security is the major reason regarding the dogs. When they got out, I am always outside.

Agreed. A neighbor like that is a lazy one. Since I am working from home , I now see what he has been doing. No more.

My dogs do like to chase other animals. I have to check out back before I let them out. I did not see the deer in the back and before I knew it they were off. The deer went over the hill and that pretty much ended the chase. They also will chase squirrels, so the fence is a good idea for me in keeping them safe . Doors to hear about your dog.

Yes agree with that. But I do realize that he has a huge dislike for fences. So putting in a fence will permanently piss him off, block him from blowing leaves into my yard and allow a place for my dogs to enjoy themselves.

I have smaller dogs, so a shorter fence, something like the picture above. The wire mesh will keep the dogs in and keep my neighbor from blowing leaves into the yard. I do have the deer issue with a bunch of perennials and bushes in the yard, but I will deal with that in another way.

We do have coyotes in the area. I am always outside with my dogs when they are outside. Usually we are on a walk in the neighborhood ( leashes) or in the backyard . So I do think about keeping them safe. The fence should help.
