she's still got "IT"

Shanee wrote a cool blog on flirting [post 595312] and it reminded me of my Aunt Con.

Aunt Con is 93. She is still a vibrant woman with a broad smile and high color. last time we got together, i took her to a fancy pants restaurant and once we settled in and had a glass of wine to sip, she started. first she looked all around the room. "i'm definitely the oldest person here," she said.

i pointed out a few that i said looked older. she pooh poohed my efforts. when the waiter came to take our order, she got a sly little grin on her face.

"is the beef aged?"

"yes Ma'am. it's very good."

"how good is very good?"

"tender and very tasty"

"tender enough for an old woman like me?"

"why Ma'am, you're not old..."

sparkling eyes, flushed cheeked from the wine, she smiled at him and said, "why i'm old enough to be your grandmother"

"impossible Ma'am"

"in any case, i think i'll try the veal. i like my meat young"

at this point, he burst out laughing and she smiled like a queen at her subject. the meal was wonderful and we told stories and got a little silly. whenever we needed him, he was right there and each time he made some small gesture to her. smoothing her sweater on the back of the chair. bringing her samples of the desserts. adding the cream to her coffee.

the restaurant has a small foyer, quite elegant and when we got up to leave, he walked her out, helped her slip on her sweater. there was soft music playing and as she turned to leave, he opened his arms and she moved into them and they danced a few moments. i just stood there watching her face, lit from within. he opened the door for her, walked her to the car and held her hand as he helped her in.

"thank you young man"

"no, thank you Ma'am. it's not often i get to dance with a beautiful woman."

he closed the door and turned back into the restaurant. she watched him go. as we drove off she turned to me and said, "what a terrible flirt he was." but oh, how her eyes were shining.

i loved that waiter for flirting with my Auntie. for making her feel special. for reminding her of how it feels to be desired.

just before we sent to sleep, she called to me from the guest room. "margie? thank you for a lovely dinner." i said, "i'm going to take you everywhere with me. you seem to get all the good looking guys." she laughed. and after a brief pause, i heard her say softly, "i always did."

You cannot conceive the many without the one.

I swear we are on the same wave length here.

A patient came into the office the other day ... aged, not feeling well and actually we scheduled her for surgery this Sunday. I was listening to the doctor give the husband orders and I looked at the lady as she sat quietly in one of those "sit and roll" walkers, her face turned slightly away from me.

I called her name, turning her face to look at me, I stated, "ma'am, you have such a beautiful face." Her eyes twinkled and this small smile swept across her lips and her chin rose just a tab bit higher to look at me.

She reminded me of my great great aunt, who was full blooded Cherokee. She had white hair, with that yellow gold mixed in and her facial structure, high cheekbones, hardly no signs of her age and it just struck me with awe, that even in pain, she held that beauty. She musta been this amazing beautiful creature in her younger days. Not that she wasn't beautiful to me now, but I could see her as I looked at the clear deep blue eyes, which look like dark water. I can't explain how she impacted me with just her face, but it took me back to my childhood and stirred memories of the beautiful women I was privileged to know.

You story was captivating and I sometimes just pass through, because you leave me wondering what to say. So I take my memories with me, knowing that in another time ... you and I must have known each other too. I just wanted to share this one with you ... as we both were privy to a couple of amazing ladies.

The great thing about good family stories is that, as long as you speak or tell their story, they never ... truly are gone.
I'm thinking of you, Sis.
Love and warm huggies to mom.

Hiyas we
This reminds me of the email that we shared re the ole gal's poem .
The art of flirting should never die .I love to flirt ...and have been told that I do it rather well ...slight blush .When questioned by a man in my company ( jealous date ), I told him that harmless firting is good for everyone involved .It makes all parties smile , it releases positive chemicals and karma ...and ...as with your aunt ...keeps us young.
Bats eyes at you and offers a big Canuck hug .
ps ...I think that you are such a special person yourself , and I do hope that our paths will cross in r/t
lacen

i have a young board member. and i mean young. when he comes to the meeting, he always sits next to me and looks deep into my eyes. then he says - yup, still here. it sounds silly but he makes me feel present. and like a present. grins

Great post! Reminds me of my dad's mom. She'd get a cocktail or two in her every once in a while and turn into a sweet little tart.

beautiful. the story, Your Auntie, and You.

the elderly are such a treasure that we ... 'youngens' seem to have lost touch with. i spent the last 2 years in a nursing home caring for these lovelies. the stories, the jokes, the slyness, flirting, the way their faces would light up and watching the sparkle return to their eyes. priceless.

it's great that You get to make these memories for Yourself and share such wonderful times with Her. these will be imprinted on You for the rest of Your life and Hers as well.

God Bless
