then beggars would ride

i remember in seventh grade my english teacher gave us an assignment. if you could change one thing in the world what would you change and what do you think would happen if you changed that one thing. well, being ever the procrastinator and also a smarmy little bitch, i chose world peace (must have been miss usa pageant week). she tore me to pieces. i remember that ted durland said he would have us all speak the same language. but for a 7th grader, it was really quite astute. so much is lost in translation and misunderstood.

still, i like the cultural differences. and a single language might homogenize us all.

lately i've been thinking along with my niece and her friends about wishes. they've come up with some intriguing ones and some very silly ones. when i was 15, my biggest wish would have been to have straight hair. curls were my nemesis. how was i to know that in three short years my tresses would be "in"? and i would be so political that it wouldn't have mattered if they weren't? that hair would simply no longer be an issue? thing is if you make a wish you have to be careful of the wording.....remember midas. it could take months just to make sure you hadn't used the wrong adverb.

would you wish for health, longevity, happiness, a do-over? and if your wish might alter the fabric of your life or the lives of others, could you live with that? the butterfly effect. would your wish be self centric, or expansive? would you choose to change your world or the whole world? oh and how would you ever come to grips with the what ifs? one of my niece's friends said that she would wish that all of the people she loved would be happy and healthy....any i said for how long and what is happy and what is love. another wanted to be really smart and her Friend said but what if you're smart but nuts? that happens a lot, like in a beautiful mind.

so we twisted and turned and turned and twisted. they came up with a wish....

a wish....one only....if you could....

You cannot conceive the many without the one.

My thought on this is obviously heavily tainted by what I went through this year with my mom...

My wish would be to age with afairamount of vigor, keep my mind right up until the end, and then perish from something that is relatively fast and painless.

When I was young, I was persuaded that wishes were the last refuge for optimists--nowadays... I know that's where they hang.

Solar...

BTW: I wonder if the TSA will start in on "junk"-rubbin' of them turbine blades now that Delta has had two engine-induced emergency landings of late. Could be terrorists plantin' bombs in the planes' multiple buttholes.

(sounds like a fascinating conversation, we...teens have an interesting perspective that we often forget as we grow older...)

today, I'd pick a truly selfish wish. I've spend most of my weekend engaged in a self-pity party, and I just might as well carry that selfishness through today...

I'd want time with the one I love most in the world.

Yes...I know. How much time? Would it be enough? And does he want to spend time with me... Those questions, I can't answer...

someone asked me once if i could spend time with anyone in the world, who would it be. i was deeply in love then, and i chose my lover.

i understand your wish.........it resonates with me as a woman

I would wish for humanity to truly embrace the idea of lifting the least among us. Rising waters lift all ships.

Wicked, you ask such good questions.

The topic is the stuff of great Sci-Fi novels; Ursula LeGuin's The Lathe of Heaven comes to mind (ok, not exactly wishes, but dreams)

I think I'd much more narrowly focus my wish, if I were given only one. I'm not at all sure how I'd word it, though. Peace and prosperity (is that two wishes?) for my loved ones comes to mind.

I'm also reminded of the old Genie in the Bottle legend:

A couple were out golfing along a fancy resort course one day, when Mr hooks one badly and CRASH, it goes straight thru the big window of a fairway side house. Oh Dear, what do we do?

So they walk up to the edge of the patio and out comes a tall gentleman, in a big ornate bathrobe, carrying a large piece of broken pottery. "Look what you've done!"

The couple begins to apologize profusely, when the gentleman says, "NO, it is not problem, you see I've been trapped in this bottle for over 10,000 years, you've freed me; I am prepared to grant you the traditional three wishes, but first I must ask for one favor for myself: As you can imagine after 10,000 years in a bottle, I've become quite horny, may I take you upstairs and satisfy myself with you, lovely lady?" addressing the very cute wife.

The couple look at each other and Mr says "we'll get three wishes, what the heck, you decide, Sugar Plum" and she looks at the Genie and thinks to herself, WHY NOT? so the two head off into the house, and disappear up the stairway.

Within no time at all, Mr is treated to the sounds of a MOST ENTHUSIASTIC coupling, he never knew his wife was so vocal. When he thought they must be finished (the genie's groaning) they continued with yet higher ardor and even more vocalizations from the wife. Mr was getting a bit worried when this went on for over two hours, finally things slowed and eventually the pair reappeared, the genie adjusting his robe, and the wife walking slowly, as if in a daze, but with a most massive smile on her face. She was totally disheveled, her clothing not yet even close to properly back on, and she was gazing at the genie with a most profound admiration.

Mr went up to the genie, almost angry, but his greed was the stronger motivator; "OK, now about those three wishes!" he demanded.

The gentleman turned to first embrace the wife, and planted a huge kiss upon her, then turned to the hubby and said "Aren't you a bit too old to believe in Genies?"

Sorry, Wicked, for the blatent blog hijack!
Chas < who wishes you a most thankful Thanksgiving

My wish is simple and hasn't changed much over the years. I wish to smile at everyone and have that smile spread to the next. You can't hate if you truly feel a smile.

Only one? Taken seriously would take time. My "micro" wish, or personal would be for today. Flip a coin to chose between good health through my life and to fall in mutual love with a woman of good body, mind, wit, humor so we could enjoy our time with each other. The "macro" wish would be the reduction of the Earth's population by a third over a period of 40 years to more sustainable levels by peaceful use of our intelligence, NOT war, disaster or disease.
Now, if I could correct a past mistake and not end up dead, ignorant, diseased, or in Georgia, it would be to tell my high school sweetie, who I later married, "If you really loved me, you wouldn't ask me to give up the band."

Oui, I don't know what to say, I don't know what to do -------I want to hold you like my life depended on it. No excuses or reason ---No apology to the world...oui, I want you mine...hold you, bend you, follow you, tomorrow finds us...? ------wonderful.
I'm drunk and what can I say honestly...? I want you. I want you.
I want you so bad....
