Counting Decades, centuries and millennia
Counting Decades, centuries and millennia I have seen several posts taking about the upcoming end of the decade. From inspection, the year ends on midnight of December 31. I have never seen any system that had a year Zero. So, the decade ends at the end of the tenth year. So the second decade starts on the first day after the end of the tenth year. Thus, I am finishing sixth decade (turning 61 soon) and will be starting seventh decade. So 1-1.0 are the first decade; -20 the second, etcetera. The first century would be 1-.0 and the first millennia 1-0.0 (remove the decimal get , hundred and thousand.) So by reckoning the decade still has about 54 weeks left. I am fully aware that there may be others with a difference of opinion. We will have 2 agree 2 disagree. And lighten the mood, Lindsay Vonn |

Yes, mathematically you are correct because there was no year 0. What's your point?

I agree. I thought the same thing

Don't go through life agreeing to disagree... that only means your opinion , or that which you think is so, could not stand up in a debate. That's pretty weak. You might be right, but I'm tired now... maybe I'll come back to this and give it more thought.

on the decade thing, theres nothing to disagree about, youre right. its grade school math. counting to ten is 1 - 10, not 0 - 9. and the next ten is 11 - 20, not 10 - 19. even climate-change deniers and flat-earthers cant deny that. tell them this - count your fingers (including thumbs), then your toes. 10 each, right? then the last finger you count is a toe cause its the tenth? QUOTING: bbuckwwheat replies on 12/16/2019 11:03 am: An interesting concept. Be careful, though, you never know when you might run across someone who has had an accidental thumb amputation where the big toe is used to replace the thumb. the miracles of modern science, eh? what a wonderful world we live in, and yet seem hell-bent on destroying . . .
