Dream Girl

He sighed as he strode to the door. It figured. It doesn’t matter how much online conversation you had with a person, what mattered was when you met. He had thought her so promising. Very open minded sexually. Didn’t come off too loose. Seemed like a pleaser. Even when he first looked at her. She was attractive enough. Dressed in work casual. Which made sense since was ostensibly the lunch hour. He saw her before she him. She noticed him as he walked up and smiled. That was nice. But he knew almost as soon as they started talking that she wasn’t for him. Oh, she was nice enough. But there was just something. Something that didn’t click for him. He tended to go with his gut. It was usually right even when he could overthink things and ignore it. Everybody has some level of intuitive response. It’s just many don’t listen to it.
They exchanged pleasantries. Maybe it was that look. The one you see on women everywhere you go these days. You see it when you look a woman in the eye and smile in the grocery. Just being friendly. This mean, almost I hate you look. It’s not like you were staring at her tits or making lewd overtures. Just unfriendly. Openly hostile. This woman wore it until she saw him and smiled.
They had chatted politely for a few minutes. He didn’t know if was his vibes that he wasn’t interested or just that she didn’t much care for him. After a few minutes of this, he told her he didn’t think this was going anywhere and said that he hoped she found what she was looking for and that it was nice to have met her.
The door was just ahead. He glanced over at the counter to see an attractive woman just getting served. He paused and looked. She couldn’t see him directly from where she stood. He briefly admired the fall of her hair and her curves. Just when he was about to turn way and put his hand to the door, she turned and looked directly at him. That gaze held him. They looked into each other’s eyes for a moment. A hint of a smile began to play around her lips. For some reason she seemed familiar. But he was sure he would have remembered meeting her.
On the spur of the moment he walked towards her. Now, he is not one of the wolfhound kind of guys with a practiced style and witty remark for a strange woman. Able to swoop in and work his charm and talk a woman out of her clothes. Just to leave her asking the same question that you hear from women who fall for that kind ask. “Why doesn’t he ?” No. Normally, he is somewhat reserved. Open and willing to talk to strangers, even engage in lively conversation. Not the type to just on a woman he had never seen before. It felt odd to him that he was approaching her.
She watched him come forward. She definitely had a small smile now. It occurred to him that he would have to say something. So he said the first thing that came to him.
“You seem to be somewhat familiar to me. But I don’t think we’ve met. Have you been haunting my dreams?”
Her smile was like the sun coming from being obscured by the clouds. It lit him up and felt . Or maybe that was the heat of embarrassment climbing up his collar.
“No. I don’t recognize you.” She said.
“if you have the time, perhaps you’d enjoy some company for a few minutes?”
