Be true to your school now

Just like you would to your girl or guy
Be true to your school now
And let your colors fly
Be true to your school...

Which for some people is pretty easy to do I suppose. They are born, grow-up in the same area with the same people, and never leave until they are adults if ever.
For me however, that was not the case. Born here in North East Ohio in 1975, I would be right on the front lines of a controversial decision. For the 1979-80 school year Cleveland decided that they needed to bus students from the west side to the east side and vise versa to desegregate the school. Essentially I would not be able to attend the school two blocks away (the reason my parents moved there), and I would be bused across the Cuyahoga River a few miles away. My parents were not keen on this idea. So my Dad looked for employment elsewhere. We moved to Pekin, Illinois which started my fun school career.

When the school year started in 1980 I was still 4 (and would be for a few months). The school board had me take an entrance exam, like I was going to college lol. I passed and thus started school. The first school I attended closed down after that year. In fact the school I attended for first grade also closed down right away. I do not know, maybe it was me lol. For second grade I started at C.B. Smith, although half way through the year we moved so I had the joy of another new school. We moved to Schaumburg, Illinois where I attended Neil Armstrong Elementary. I still remember watching a solar eclipse in the front yard in 1984. Alas this was not my last Elementary school, for we moved to Rockford, Illinois half way through 5th grade.

Middle school was a whole different experience all together. At this time in my life I was testing extremely high, and excelling at everything academically. So naturally my parents were convinced to send me to a "gifted school" so I would not get bored. Do you know what the true definition of gifted school is??? Twice the lessons daily and triple the homework. As you can imagine I started rebelling at this point. Wilson Jr High was not for me, but luckily we moved to Lakewood, Ohio half-way through the year. In Illinois we had Elementary K-6, Jr. High 7-8, and High school 9-12. Ohio however was Elementary K-5, Middle school 6-8, and High school 9-12. So when I started at Emerson Middle School mid-way through 7th grade all the students there had already been together for over a year. This is where I met my two oldest and closest friends though (the two I am still friends with today).

Then High school. Wow at Lakewood high there were over 4000 students, we were divided into 1 of 4 houses by our last name from homeroom and principal. Yes they had a principal for every house, and then a main principal. Two there before we moved again, this time out to Kansas where I finished my Junior and Senior of high school. That is right. If you were keeping count that from 1980 to 1993 in 13 of schooling, 9 different schools were attended.

If we add in college where I took classes at Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C) for blueprint reading, drafting and autocad. Earned my Associate of Arts from Lorain County Community College (LCCC) in Math, English, Humanities, Education and Religion. Then earned a Bachelors in Arts in Management and Accounting, and an Accountancy Masters of Business Administration both from Baldwin Wallace (BW). So for the seeming 6 of college I added another 3 schools. 12 total schools in 18 . At the very least I have world experience

How about you? Just a couple schools? A bunch of schools?

I have no problem meeting people that is for sure.

Good morning and Happy Thursday to you, interesting read this morning as your right we should always be true to our schools. You definitely had a lot of schools in your life.

I can only remember my middle school and high school, they were some of the best of times and the worst of times for me as I didn't really enjoy school because of my name. I got teased constantly, kids can be so cruel. High school wasn't too bad but I am glad that school is behind this lady..

Seduce the mind and see what a wonderful adventure the body will take you on..

A Happy Thursday to you as well

Oh teasing I understand that. Had plenty being new, coming from a larger family, and not much money to go around lol. Its where I learned to pick on myself first.

Just think you made it through, and are one awesome person!!!

It actually was great experiences looking back. When we lived in Pekin it was more rural of an area, so the math we learned was geared for that area of the country. When we moved to the Chicago suburbs all the math was geared toward city life. Something you wouldn't think of if you had not experienced it. Definitely gave me a leg up in the class most people hate.

But I do understand your point. No where to really call your hometown or roots so to speak. Although I will always consider Cleveland my hometown. I have spent the majority of my life now in this area.

I think my mother had it worse than I although in retrospect I do not think she understood what it did to her girls. I loved elementary school. K-6 and my mom was actively involved in many of the school items even though she was a single parent in a time when there was hardly any such family dynamic ( or there was we just never knew about it). She was from a small New England town and here we were stranded in Denver Colorado. I am totally sorry I have no contact with some of those classmates from that time period. I still can tell you the name of nearly everyone in my classes as well as my teaches. Even in grammar school we were on the "platoon system".

And then we got moved to Maine OMG

Wow that is a great memory. I had so many different classmates that I only remember the few that really stood out. Thanks for sharing
