Which do you say fits you more? I think depends on the weather in the barn in winter but in the sand on the beach in summer.

 I've done both and don't really recommend either! They both sound sexy, but hay is very itchy, and sand gets into all the wrong places! Even on a blanket, the sand finds its way into all the wet, sensitive areas you want to keep wet and slippery, not rough as sandpaper!
