Ayn Rand - Yikes!

Subject -Ayn Rand: I'm writing this for the fun of it and in response to something someone said and who was lauding about Rand for her philosophy.

From my point of view (which is good at leas 7:10 times) she seems to be saying that we should base our morality (sense of right and wrong) on logic and not emotion. In addition, she then appears to make the leap that what you and I should be pursuing is our own happiness.

I'm not an Ayn Rand expert, in fact, all I've done is watch a couple of her interviews and read up on what her philosophy is - objectivism.

I can be corrected by someone that knows more about the subject than I do, but she comes off as a NYC, Self Centered, Elitist, who - if she had her way, we'd live by the laws of the jungle..

I like her emphasis on logic as a way of finding the truth, but all logic is based on assumptions; and sometimes those assumptions are based on emotion. Assumptions are just a fact of the discipline of logic. How to you talk to an emotional person about their relationship with say, a husband or wife, based on logic alone without making certain emotional assumptions. You can't. It's NOT all logical.

As to her ME theme. I don't even come close to buying that one. From my point of view her basis is weak, her logic is flawed and her conclusion is that the only answer is everyone does what make them happy! Pffft ... She'd never make it as a solider, doesn't seem to have a lot of sympathy for the less privileged or gifted, and doesn't understand that we as people, need each other, and should be valued for who we are, and that it's good to help each other.
