A Westerner Eating in Taiwan

I'll start by saying that I eat Chinese food about 75-80% of the time, and I love it. I think the food here is great, and it's pretty easy to find a healthy and tasty meal (not counting food scandals, of course). I actually find it difficult going back to North America and eating the food I grew up eating.

There are some exceptions, though:

1. Breakfast

I still prefer my pancakes, bacon, eggs, toast, sausage, etc. You know, all those wonderful comfort foods. (Although, a Cantonese breakfast in Guangdong is just as good.)

2. Those little fish and shrimp

Taiwan has so many wonderful vegetables, but restaurants often put those baby fish and baby shrimp in with them. They ruin the vegetables for me. Just give me my veggies, please.

3. Blood and offal

I just won't touch the stuff. Maybe stomach. Yeah, that's probably the only one, though.
