My neighbor

For the past 6 years I had a nice mature couple now 85M / 83F. We loved each other very platonically , sharing many dinners back and forth as well as night caps and a few PJ breakfasts. The wife is now in hospice . I want to be a good friend as I know he needs real support for this is going on for 3 weeks and the end which is inevitable in unknown. He is a dream boat of a man and is my type so bad that it hurts me to see him in this situation as well as her as I have told them that they were my adopted parents. I love them both . I guess I will continue and just let him know I'm there for him and let him know that I'd do anything for him in the most sincere way, not mentioning what my heart would want..I'll just let the cards fall where they may. I'm not going to do anything stupid and risk the friendship.
Any advice on this would be appreciated.
P.S. - The wife has passed on . We are still friends and still having night caps and going out to dinner and I occasionally cook. The feeling I get is that he values the friendship as much as I do so I'll just keep things as they are and support him as required and just be a good friend.
