Time
Time It's a funny thing.... For some people, it's fluid, kind of like a guideline. "Be here at 10:15 so we have time to do your COVID intake and get you punched in before orientation at 10:30." They come strolling in at 10:35..... "Hey, I was waiting for you where you said to meet you." Really?? "I was expecting you at 10:15, which was the start of your shift today." "Oh.... Well.... I thought orientation started at 10:30." Awkward silence as new employee scans their brain for the plausible excuse for being late. "It does start at 10:30, it is now 10:35. You're 20 minutes late. Going forward, you will need to be on time for each shift." It's a sad state of affairs when you have to explain to people what being on time means. For people like me, whose every moment during the workday is linked to a timeline, being late creates an issue. When I have a meeting scheduled at 10:30 am, and you show up 20 minutes late at 10:35 am, guess what that means?? It means I have to LEAVE MY MEETING to get your fucking ass going in an orientation you are late for. So, while time may only be fluid for you, or a guideline for when you are expected to be somewhere, for others it is not. The most disrespectful thing you can do to another person is waste their precious, little time. |

I was raised to be on time. And that meant that you were at least 10-15 minutes early. You have to allow for traffic or other minor delays. And if you show up early for a meeting, interview or whatever, you wait until that person is ready. As long as you're on time, that's what counts.

People recognize you? 🤔 Hmmm... My trouble is that I follow too many people. I read all their blogs then I want to be polite and it dawns on me that I should TRY and make an effort to be glib or cute or witty and there... is where the problem lies. Nobody likes a simple emoji. So, I'm stuck for a minute or two, scribbling something. And even at that - the result isn't stellar. Add up all those seconds and voilà... a bunch of half hours. And those 30 minutes add up. If I don't make a comment, I feel bad - for some of them. It's a guilt thing. I'm trying to be polite. You know what I mean? I wonder if any of them would give a shit if I just stopped by and said nothing? Ya think I'm over-thinking this? What do you think? I seem to have drifted off topic...

I'm always early except when it comes to sex. Then I strive to be very very late.

I hate being late.......still get stressed at the possibility, beforehand......but then if for reasons beyond my own control I'm late, well, it cannae be helped. I really dislike people being late because they've been careless though. It's always struck me as selfish. And it doesn't bode well for a new employee to saunter in whenever it suits them.........that's really not how it works!

I'm one of those weirdos who arrives early to everything. My father used to tell me that being chronically late meant you don't value others' time, that stuck with me.

The problem is, a lot of people are working from home right now. That same sense of urgency a person feels in an office isn't there when they are sitting on their couch, drinking their coffee, working from home. I feel for your friend, that's really gotta suck.

I love it! I hear what you are saying and I totally agree with you!!!

Wasting time seems to be part of the norm beginning about 4 years ago. Drives me crazy. I always am early not matter the situation and I am easily irritated by those who treat my time cavalierly Um, there's a reason why I schedule things. I realize you were in town and thought you'd take care of your donation request since you were here, but, I'm in the middle of a conference call and I told you that specific time because THAT'S WHAT WORKS FOR ME.

I guess you could call it ; Force of my own habit !! If I have a specific time too be somewhere ; I will show-up 10 to 15 minutes early , depending on my driving time too get there !! At my age ; I guess some would consider that as " Old School Thinking " !!!

I should measure my use of time more wisely. I calculated how much of it I spend here. Yep... I was surprised. 😶 But I'm only affecting my own deadlines.
