to define a leader

the dictionary defines a leader as : one who goes before; BUT i define a leader much differently. a leader is somebody you look to for guidance, somebody you can trust and respect. Go to for advice and help. Try to be this person in your daily life. It will make you a better person.. thoughts?

Paraphrased from:
Dave Ulrich & Norm Smallwood. hbr.org | July‒August 2007 | Harvard Business Review.

The Leadership Code

Leaders are masters of Strategy; they have a clear vision of the mission and be able to position the organization for continued success with their constituents and its goals.

Leaders are "Executives" able to Execute, which means they build organizational systems that work, to deliver results, and to make change happen.

Additionally, they must Manage Talent, knowing how to motivate, engage, and communicate with today’s talent. They must also find ways to develop each intern's exceptional abilities and train them for future leadership.

Finally, Leaders display Personal Proficiency ‒ demonstrating an ability to learn, act with integrity, exercise social and emotional intelligence, make bold decisions, and engender trust.

when i posted this, i was feeling a bit salty because of poor leadership @ work. the bad seed has since been fired. wish he could have been reformed a different way- but at least now he's not my problem.
