Thankful for the Future

It's amazing what a few bottles of Italian wine, spaghetti, some garlic bread and a salad can do about philosophy and a present day holiday.

Had a few friends over before the big feast for us US Americans having our Thanksgiving tomorrow. I know our friends to the north celebrate theirs in July. You'll are great friends and business partners, but why July?

Anyways, we were talking around the table, all from different occupations, one's an MD, another is an accountant, one a professor at UTX and a few from the high tech industry here in Austin and myself a power engineer. Now we're not a bunch of old geezers our ages range from 35 to 60, Me and the Doc being the oldest, he older then me by eighteen months or so and were all a bunch of good neighbors.

We were all talking about what we needed to do for tomorrow festivities at each of our locations. Those that were have a large crowds were doing turkey and brisket. The rest of us normal size were doing just turkeys. I told them that I'm going to smoke mine which I normally what I do this time of year. Plus it saves on oven space, betcha didn't know that. Hell ya!

So as we're going through the main course with a few bottles of Chianti and one of the guys (the Prof) asked for each of us to explain what we're thankful for. Really dude, its the day before thanksgiving and we're getting a pretty good buzz off the wine. So I took the lead and told him:

I'm grateful that the good lord hasn't struck me down, yet! Grateful that both of my have wonderful little cubs (all male, go figure it must have been in the genes) and that they are healthy, not sure about the wise part yet, their are a little too young and that the next generation will have to take over one hell off a mess that we should not have created.

As I was telling the Prof, Nietzsche's philosophy was: "I am who I am" and Voltaire freedom of expression are very much a part of what are freedoms are built on today and I'm thankful that Thomas Jefferson and a few of the rebel realized what the French and Germans (Nietze came later). The one thing it has taught me was that each generation will and must move on no matter what happens to the previous generation.

I am what I am.

Cheers, we can all go deep on this but I'm sure the gals may not.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone now time to smoke a turkey, ugh!

It may be a little deep guys buy hey after a few bottles of nice wine, wholey sh*T get with it
