>>> Critical Thinking , At Its Best! Woman: Do you drink beer? Man: Yes Woman: How many beers a day? Man: Usually about 3 Woman: How much do you pay per beer? Man: $5.00 which includes a tip (This is where it gets scary !) Woman: And how long have you been drinking? Man: About 20 years, I suppose Woman: So a beer costs $5 and you have 3 beers a day which puts your spending each month at $450. In one year, it would be approximately $5400 correct? Man: Correct Woman: If in 1 year you spend $5400, not accounting for inflation, the past 20 years puts your spending at $108,000, correct? Man: Correct Woman: Do you know that if you didn't drink so much beer, that money could have been put in a step-up interest savings account and after accounting for compound interest for the past 20 years, you could have now bought a Ferrari? Man: Do you drink beer? Woman: No Man: Where's your Ferrari? I learned years ago that many "experts" really have no experience, they are just puking out what they have read in a book written by another "expert". This really rang true to me during the recent economic down turn. Close friends of mine, at the beginnings of the problems went to "experts" for advice. Both they and the "experts " lost substantial assets. My strategy actually kept me with no loses, no great gains, but no loses. What are your experiences with "experts", have they been good, bad or indifferent? |

"experts" are people, just like you and me. if you have reasonable intelligence and self discipline, you can keep the fees paid to an expert and do better on your own. my analogy regarding investing is that i prefer to be a turtle, always heading in the right direction, rather than a thoroughbred race horse running the wrong way

So true. I always am suspect of an almost fresh out of college expert. I want an expert ,like I want my men,, experienced and mature

|
I had no losses as well...... I visited no experts. I trusted my gut instincts and what I learned watching my role models as I grew up!! I have met far too many 'bookrote' experts and not enough wise experts humble enough to not taut themselves as experts which is exactly why they were called experts. Wisdom comes from living and those who are actually wise will not agree that they are and actually will be a bit surprised they are called wise. Have a great weekend.

Great story. Most of the experts that I have encountered have been very generous with bad advice, bad intentions and overcharged for their rubbish advice. Amateurs with direct life experience are infinitely more worth listening to and usually their advice costs nothing. I just prefer to trust my own instincts, these days, they're getting better but they're not infallible.

I never have to worry about financial experts. They only tell you what to do with extra money .... they have no idea how to manage a tight budget. Opportunity may knock only once, but temptation bangs on the door forever!

Luv this one, Pal!
