Painesville Party in the Park

I finally went somewhere other than work, the library, the park, or the movies, yesterday.

I went to something called "Painesville Party in the Park", a three day music festival that I've been hearing about for the past several years.

Never thought I would but I decided to be a good spouse, and I have to tell you: I had more fun than she did. Matter of fact I shocked her because I was in the middle of things dancing up a storm last night.

I normally don't go to these type of stuff because of the knuckle-heads who just hate to see decent people having a good time, but every one was having a good time and there was nothing to worry about.

The closing act was a group called "Carlos Jones and the P.L.U.S. Band." I know; they could have done themselves some good by coming up with a better name than that but, to be honest, it didn't interfere with how good they were.

I very rarely listen to a Reggae group that has its origin outside of Jamaica, but little by little I'm beginning to see how ridiculous that philosophy is. These guys were terrific and, not only did they do some great stuff with Bob Marley's music, but they also did an awesome rendition of "Fire On The Mountain" from the Grateful Dead.

They started out with a re-modeled Calypso standard that had the crowd of mainly white young folks dancing; after a while I'm thinking to myself: they're over-doing this; they're going to lose the crowd." Instead, more and more people were joining in. I stopped guessing from that point and just started to enjoy the party.

After that, nobody really left until they were certain there wasn't going to be a second encore.

Consider it a night well spent! Next stop? Mid West Reggae Fest, Whiskey Island, OH, August 10-12.

The last 8 years I've kind of stayed off the grid but I've been trying to change that lately.

Yeah, man!! That's the kind of weather I'm experiencing in Cleveland right now. I'm about to go walking in the park right now.
