PETA and fur

PETA and fur Saw a news story that Paul McCartney's wife is harassing JLO for fur wearing. I think the PETA group is going too far. Penn & Teller did a Bullshit! episode about the antics of this group. And PETA euthanizes more dogs and cats than the humane society! I favor treating animals humanely but that includes eating meat and wearing leather in my book. In nature there are many carnivores including sharks, wolves, bears, snakes, apes, and humans. Fur is no more evil than raising cattle for meat and dairy products. I rescued a from the humane society and he is a great companion. Those who care about animals should adopt one and have it neutered so more animals don't have to be euthanized. Those who oppose animal testing of drugs and cosmetics should volunteer to be test subjects so the products are safe when widely distributed! |

Uh, raising animals for fur isn't as humane as raising the food animals. I'm no friend of PETA, but I gotta agree with this one. I don't want to tell the stories, and you don't want to read them.

Is harvesting furs less humane than the way animals rip each other into bloody carcasses in the wild? Once you say animals hae the same rights as humans you have to stop wearing leather belts, shoes, eating meat, dairy, fish, eggs, etc. Only dropped fruit and nuts you personally harvest are acceptable. And don't plants have any rights too? I say humans are animals too with the right ot use other animals. No need to be excessively cruel, but give me a break.

Well, I do have a view on just about everything don't I. In Russia the process in harvesting fur involves skinning the dog alive to prevent as much damage to the coat as possible. I am not apposed to fur completely. This is what I suggest: Go out, kill the animal yourself, skin the dam thing, tan and process it. We will see how many people are willing to wear it then. If you are going to wear fur, then be sure the whole animal is put to use. They deserve that much. We deer hunt and fish and do other types of hunting, but we have to haul the carcus out, cut, skin, butcher and process. We use just about everything the animal has given us and what we can't is offered to the creatures of the woods. How many people would eat meat if they had to prepare it themselves? Animal testing? Well, why don't we just start spraying the hairspray in human eyes to see if there is a bad reaction? Yes human subjects should be used cause we are the ones who benefit. No I am not radical in my views. I have no problem with people wearing fur as long as they are fully aware of how they came to get it. Maybe watch the harvesting up close. Not a pretty site and sometimes cruel and unusual punishment. So many people and especially people who lives their lives in a concrete city are completely out of touch. Turning a blind eye to what is done for the sake of vanity and health is just not right. Medications are critical to some people lives and perhaps animal subjects are a neccessary evil in that case but their is a better way. Just think hard enough and you will discover it.

People do not do many harsh things themselves anymore so why treat fur as a special case. Ever seen the way hot dogs or hamburgers are made? How about cooking live lobsters? I don't hunt or fish for fun, but many do. Cats toy with a mouse before killing it. Humans can be better than other animals but not sure they are required to be. When I fished I cleaned and ate my catch generally. My point is that holding peole to a standard the other animals do not meet is illogical as carnivores are widespread. I support bans on killing endangered species, but sometimes that changes and they become a menace as alligators, cougars and sea lions have.

I don't eat hot dogs, yuk a little saw dust, some lips and ass and your good to go. Point well taken though, the creatures of the wild can be cruel but I don't agree with the cats who play with their food either, or the pack of wolves who tear their prey apart and start munching down before the thing is dead. Bad bad animals! LOL We are such idiots with protecting endangered animals. My view. We screw things up, try to fix them and screw them up more, and try again to fix them, then screw them up again. Salmon restoration is a good example of that. Over the years they have just been messing things up more and more thinking they are good folks for trying to fix it. The goal should be, and I don't claim it to be an easy task, is to stop messing with nature, stop trying to fix our screw ups. Nature is very good at fixing herself in many areas if we would just stop interferring. The truth of the matter is...Humans will run themselves into extinction and nature will get back to her business of cleaning and restoring. That is if a giant meteor dosen't pound down on us first.
