Iran deal

While the GOP has tried to write-off the President, he has been busy doing stuff. Like normalizing relations with Cuba. The proposed deal with Iran is an even bigger deal.

While some in Israel are afraid and the GOP opposes it, a deal will start the chance to have a less hostile relationship with Iran and the world. Not just the US made this deal. The US, UK, Germany, EU, China and Russia made this deal with Iran.

The critics are right that the deal is far from perfect. But is a ten or 15 year delay in Iran getting a nuclear bomb better than no deal? If Iran cheats the sanctions can snap back. If Iran wants to sell more oil and improve its economy will they risk crippling sanctions by cheating on the deal? The chemical weapons deal with Syria was better than a missile strike.

We made deals with Russia, China, Vietnam and now Cuba. We can try to make deals with Iran and see if they will live up to them. Attempting peace with strong verification beats military action. The war approach did not work so well in Iraq, Afghanistan or Syria. Time to give peace a chance and see if we can make some progress.

Also Iran's oil coming on the market will lower the cost of crude oil and help the economy, which is a good thing. It really bugs the GOP when Obama accomplishes something the Repubs did not, like get Osama Ben Laden killed, or get health insurance for more uninsured or support gay marriage or get US combat troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan...

It will take a while to get Iran's oil into the market but should put downward pressure on gas prices, which is good for consumers. My guess is the deal with get approved by the Senate if not the House and will become a reality.
