An interesting NY Times article about women soldiers in Iraq over the last six years makes many interesting points. the women have performed extremely well and suffered along with the other combat troops. They have made due with little privacy and little special accommodation. Occasionally they get or harassed, but they have learned to go out at night in pairs. Many fewer pregnancies have occurred than expected. Sex does occur, but condoms seem to keep the adverse consequences at bay.

Now the Iraq soldiers are taking over and the Americans are training and providing logistical support. The new battle is Afghanistan. Women will be needed to search women Afghanies at checkpoints and for intelligence duties among others.
