Todays young generation - the millennials

There have been comments here in the blogs and elsewhere that the millennials are alienated, unhappy, lazy and irresponsible. I disagree and the July 12, 2014 Economist Magazine did an article which showed some interesting things about the young people. For example, in the United States the proportion of high school students reporting "binge-drinking" has fallen by a third since the late 1990s. Cigarette smoking is less common among teenagers than cannabis (23. And pot smoking has decreased from the 1970s among that group. Teenage pregnancy is less than half what it was 20 years ago. The Economist points out that tuition fees for colleges in the United States have been increasing at roughly 7% per year since the 1970s and now average $30,000 at private universities. That is a lot to spend on just getting laid and high. So students seem to be less inclined to the hedonism of the past.
