How to spot a Fake Profile

How to spot a Fake Profile

Any one of these attributes might not necessarily indicate a fake profile, but most that I've seen have (or do) many of the following:

- The profile was created today.
- The photos are too good to be true.
- It has identical photos posted multiple times.
- It's a free account; a paid account is more credible because they've spent some money on this.
- No Friends; a user with Friends is a lot more credible because they've spent some time accepting Friend requests.
- The photos don't match the description, e.g., "Hair color: Blonde" but the photos are of a brunette, "Bra Size: 40 DD" but the photos show a small-chested woman, or "Race: Black" but the photos show a white woman.
- Search for the photos on www.tineye.com and find they're stolen from porn or amateur or or celebrity sites.
- Too many "Prefer not to say" answers. Seriously? You can't just admit that you smoke? Drink? Do or don't do drugs? Are single or married?
- The Introduction text does not match the multiple-choice answers, e.g., "I'm a 21-year-old" whose age is listed as 28. Seriously? She doesn't know how old she is?
- The profile says it's a couple, but the Introduction text is written in the first person ("I like...I want...").
- The Introduction text is a ridiculous male fantasy, e.g., "I love older guys," "I do anything in bed," "Two females hungry for thick, long lasting dick," etc.
- The Introduction text is incoherent, unrealistic ("I seek for the partner the rest of my life"), or written as if it were a private message to the reader ("Hi, you sound nice, email me").
- They send you a Flirt (or Hotlist you) but they're half your age and live hundreds or thousands of miles away.

When I see a stolen or obviously-fake photo, most of the time the user has not turned off the "Comments" function, so I post a comment like: "FAKE FAKE FAKE - photo stolen from X web site - FAKE FAKE FAKE."

Most fake profiles (from which I've gotten Flirts) are deleted by the end of the day. I'm not sure if the Affairlook staff deletes them (I certainly report every one), or if the scammer has gotten what they wanted and has moved on.

Fake profiles may be created by scammer/spammer users, probably looking to run a "lonely hearts" money scam, but doesn't it also seem likely that the Affairlook staff might post a few as well?

Be careful out there!
