In The Place of Song (An Ode to the Aztec Goddess Mayahuel)

Flowers are our only garments,
only harmonies make these pains subside,
diverse flowers bloom upon the earth,
In the place of song.

Perhaps my friends will be lost,
my companions will vanish,
when I lie down in that place,
In the place of song.

Does no one know where we are going?
Do we go to the skies, or
do we live only here on earth,
In the place of song?

Let your hearts know,
Oh scorpions, oh eagles and jaguars
That we will not be forever,
In the place of song.

Only for a moment here, then we go
O! Bird of myriad voices, Mayahuel-
I love the color of jade in your eyes,
In the place of song.

Singing so sweetly for me,
Let me stroke your feathers bright,
Plumes of turquoise birds, the quetzal, the trogon
In the place of song.

I'm loosening your smokey robes, beat your drum...
I'll paint your haunches as star-kissed temples -
Till bitterness flees, and you aflame - rest
In the place of song.

Thank you for all of that. Very thoughtful, informative, and kind of you to collect and present all of that. Are you yourself of Mexican heritage? I'm part (very small) Native American myself (Cherokee).

I was checking out translations of the Codex and other bits and pieces before I wrote this. Nice to see we are on the same wavelength.
