As a

What kinda job did you have as a ? Or did you stay home
and do nothing but get in trouble?

Well, living out here in my swampy place, the teenagers in my
area were expected to crawl down the muddy space between strawberry
rows and pick berries for $0.05 a quart; hit the hot sand in a blueberry field to pick berries; walk between the hot humid rows of tobacco in the fields, either topping or cropping tobacco; work the dry smelly tobacco readying it for market, all to make a few dollars to buy school clothes and supplies in the fall.

On Saturdays you might get a chance to go to town and spend $0.10 for
a movie (favorite place, since you could stay in the theater all day if
you didn't go out the front door).

What a life, hard but enjoyable to get the opportunity to work and
associate with your family and friends.

Everybody share with us what you did as a ????

    Quoting Furbal1972:
The "legal" work that teenagers did around here was de-tassling corn. Very hard work from what I hear, so I never did it.

I did have a paper route for a time and also mowed lawns. But mostly I worked "under the table" at a bar, stocking the cooler and cleaning up. Then I helped the bar owner remodel a house for about $20/day. (plus free soda)

When I turned 16, I bought a car and had to get a "real job" to pay for it, so I started doing telemarketing.
Interesting, what we were able to find to do in the different
areas of the country. Thanks for sharing.

Read my diary Journal of a Taxi Driver for taxi stories and pictures of flowers and trees.
