REVOLUTIONARY WAR ERA DRESS GARB - By Jan Browne

Ladies and Gents (possibly), help is needed to determine
best garb, don't want the mundane like everyone else has come up with:

Having gotten involved with an organization locally, and especially in view of my living in close<b> proximity </font></b>to a Civil War Battlefield which has many re-enactment activities, this group I have joined volunteers and participates with the Rangers at the Site, I am in need of some guidance and help.

I have already acquired a rather quaint long dress, square neck, but no sleeves, a white background print with some old fashioned black printed designs covering the dress.

My quandary, I need either a pinafore ( but need sleeves), which has the effect of another long dress over the top of the printed one, preferably a solid color fabric, but don't really want black,
which might or might not be styled in the front to be open; then again it could be more like a long apron, but long.

Will also need a bonnet worn during that time period, and since I have no more printed fabric the same as the dress, guess I'll have to settle for a solid print the same color as the over dress/apron. Also need a pattern if anyone can direct me to where I might find such for a bonnet, and this over dress or apron.

All suggestions, color, style, location where I can acquire such patterns etc might be very helpful, or are there those out there that have such and want to recycle? HELP!!!!!! Am drowning under all this, especially since I am unable to use to arms for
even dealing with such large pieces of fabric. Is there such a store anywhere to obtain these articles I'm looking?

Your help and comments are most welcome.

Could your local library help you out with the patterns or ideas? How about a local fabric store?
Thanks, bigman had a good idea, asthere is
no fabric store locally, would have to go into
the larger town, as I live sorta on the outskirts.

Library is also a great idea. And that thought you planted threw
me to the smaller museums of the early homesteads out in the
little country towns, surely they would have some displayed as to style, and might even have some old paper patterns.

Thanks guys, great ideas. I'll get there finding what I need.
Of course what I'd love to find are several already made that can be altered/reworked that some lady was involved with the same or like organization and does not need them anymore.

And bigman, in our area, a quick thought, I might find what I need or could use when the local film company in ILM has their downsize on their costume closets. Maybe I'll go on line and check this, or call a good friend of my son who has a connection with the film studio having worked for them for years.

Thanks a bunch. Way down the road, when it all comes together, will have to post a pic of the ole lady with all her Revolutionary War garb.

Have a great day, and thanks again for all the input.

Thanks, I had forgotten about them. You are probably right that they would/should have something as they usually have a great selection
and close enough I could take the one section of dress in and match it up with what looks nice.

Thanks for dropping in.
