PLEASE PRAY FOR MY LITTLE BOY!!! On Thursday my Lil' Metalhead had a CAT Scan and they found "something" on his brain that they told me could be a tumor and they said it looked like he had bleeding on his brain. They told me that it was VERY serious and that they had a helicopter en route to rush him to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse NY.  He had been suffering from pounding headaches on and off for about 4 days and I mentioned this fact to an Allergy & Asthma specialist that I took him to last Wednesday. He didn't think it was related to what he was seeing my boy for and recommended the Cat scan. When the scan came back I KNEW it was bad. My 's Pediatrician was in tears as she tried to tell me the news. I was crying so hysterically that I barely heard what she said. All I heard were the words TUMOR, BLEEDING, BRAIN, SERIOUS, HELICOPTER, UPSTATE and NOW. I had to call my ex at work. The sound of him wailing out loud in pain as he cried is still in my head and I hope it goes away soon. I've never heard anything like that and I now realize that is probably exactly what I sounded like. I wanted to tell my boy what was happening, I thought he would be less freaked out hearing it from me. And considering that he suffers from a mild case of Autism, I know the proper way to speak to him at his level. So I made it like an adventure, I told him that the two of us would be riding in an ambulance to the airport where he would then go in a helicopter to a different hospital so they could try to fix his headaches. The hardest part was letting go of his hand when it was time to go in the chopper My sister drove my ex and I to Upstate and let me tell you, that drive is only an hour from us but it felt like 3 days! When we got there my boy was in the ER hooked up to an IV and every monitor you could imagine. He was watching cartoons and was full of smiles!. He thought the helicopter ride was, and I quote, "The most awesome thing ever!" The Neurosurgeons recommended a MRI to get a better view of what was going on. We got there around 5 pm and finally got the results around midnight. The waiting was SOOOOOOO hard and extremely stressful.  My has a Cavernous Hemangioma on his brain stem. What this means is he has some "deformed" blood vessels that were oozing blood. It has been described as a benign tumor by some Doctors and others described it as not a tumor but as a bunch of blood vessels. There is a small chance that it could just stop "doing it's thing" on it's own. It could bleed or hemorrhage but there is only about a 1% chance of that per year, thankfully. The problem is that it could grow and become very serious. There is no way to predict it so they could not give us a percent for that. The major problem is the location of it. It is located on an area of the brain stem where surgery is next to impossible. Surgery would be extremely dangerous and would only happen as a last resort, IF it could be done at all. So what it boils down to is that nothing can be done at this point. We came home from the hospital last night with the instructions to monitor him for any changes and get him to the ER right away if we notice anything. He will have to have regular MRI's to monitor it, the next one is a month from now. All we can do is pray that it goes away. PLEASE pray for my !!!! He is my life and it would mean nothing without him  |

hey srry to hear about your son ,he sounds like a very strong boy,i've lived through the HELL of cancer at age 20 from true metal head to metal head if there's any -thing i can say or do for you and your family i'm here i,ve lost 3 close people in my life in the last 2 mnths all up there in age but never -the -less all from the same evil disease called cancer. personally all the praying in the world i believe makes people feel better about them-selves inside,but what made me stay strong was the look in my mother's eye's when she was standing over me telling me that if i died she would have nothing to live for,know im not saying that you should say the same thing to your son but my belief is god knows how much you charrish your boy and that is prayer enough so like you said watch out Tommy Lee lol seriosly im not very good at this typin' and chating thing but im a local syr, dude that has lived through heelll and the local music scene (lmao)and would luv to do anything i can to help-out your family in this circumstance....please im not sum crazzd nut well lol my name is SEAN AND PLEASE contact me i might be able to help sumhow meluvtang692

You have my prayers, Metal. My heat goes out to you. It hurts so much when something like this happens to a loved one. When the loved one is a child, the hurting is indescribable! I pray that he'll be better, soon. My granddaughter badly burned her hands on the fireplace in their new home just before Christmas. It was terrible to see her in misery that day. By Christmas, she was feeling much better, and, now, while the healing isn't complete, she has healed so much! And, I know that it's the prayers of family and loved ones that did it. So, you and your son are in my prayers.

was thinking, in response to the diagnosis, did you get a second opinion as for the dr's suggesetion of waiting. I'm in Lower NY Plent y of really good hosp's around here ,or go to Manhattan Cornell s Really good St. Judes Children's Hosp. As Well ^5 I My suggestion would be to continue to ask other medical people. My thought is waiting and not doing anythingn seems worse then a dr. telling you bad news. At least there is news, so look around for those 2nd & 3rd opinions ^5 Hope your day is as good as it can be (( hugs ))

I am a brand new mom and could not even begin to know how you must feel. I do know this has brought me to tears. I could not imagine what I would do if something happened to my baby. I'm so sorry to hear about your little boy....I have the same type of tumor on my heart, actually located on the back of my heart. Like your son, there isnt anything, besides MRI's to see if its growing. My tumor feeds into the heart, I did have major heart surgery to be told there wasnt anything they could do...The location of mine, is what makes it rare, the 3rd in the world. They now believe I had it from the time i was a child, and it has stayed the same size for 10yrs. I will pray for your son and your family..... Kim

Metalmama, I am saying a prayer as write this. May THE Lord show his mercy on his young. Though I am not a practicing catholic I do believe I am a christian. I know not why these things happen, why the tragedies of the young and helpless? All I know is prayer and hope and you have them both from me.

My prayers are with you! Our daughter was diagnosed with a pineal tumor in January, so we know the feeling of not knowing what to do, but to just pray and hope for the best! She had really bad headaches for a while too, and I asked for a CT scan. Then, the bad news! We will keep you in our prayers! Good luck and have faith and hope that all will work out, the rest is in Gods hands!
