... ---Nightmarish Carousel--- You wrap your hands around my neck But I've learned how to breathe You try to cover up my eyes But my eyes have learned to see All this time that I blamed myself You were just as guilty as I All the years I've spent in regret Were a waste time So dance my little fairy, dance my little slave You're addicted to the stories you tell Circling about rising in and falling down On this nightmarish carousel Our armies are burning now I can smell their sweet rot Reminiscent of blood and perfume Like your skin when we fought I thought you were an angel once Until your horns flayed my skin So upon some throne I drew a blade Since then a prince of hate I've been So cower my little demon, cower my little And build your fortress there in hell For what goes around will come around On this nightmarish carousel The armies have since smouldered out I can taste their salty ash upon my tongue And these grateful dead beckon to my call For it's their song that I have sung Through no effort I have scaled your walls And you miss my love that you have lost But your apologies fall now upon deaf ears Because that love was my crown's cost So run my little foolish girl, run my little slut Pray for mercy under some cathedral's bell But no solace you find will stay my sword On this nightmarish carousel ---History Teaches--- Silence creeps upon the cloa of a shadow Slipping in and out of the darkness as it passes Slowly encompassing all within its path Softly reminding us of a history in which we took part In a land broken upon itself with war Boys and girls became the adults of a nonchalant generation Learning the lessons never quite grasped by the one before These things that technology seldom teaches In every drop of blood spilled was political philosophy In every friend lost was cost management In every day away from home was communication And in every failed relationship was geography For us, death was made to be a far less foreign anomoly Justice was made into Shakespearian comedy and tragedy Life was no longer some broad, generic term And brotherhood became something not found in the blood The salt in our sweat left stains upon our armor Modern crusaders in another war led by incompetence For the politician knows about war About as much as teh warrior knows about normal life We fought for play kings in their kingdoms built on intolerance Humans who were less than human in their eyes But the difference was superficial, and this became our war for them Our fight to let humans live as any human should be allowed To us, choas is only an evil word for those unaccustomed to it Democracy is far more chaotic than anything else we've seen And here we learned the most important lessons we will ever know Freedom's most dangerous enemies are free men with stupid opinions |
