Reach Out!
Reach Out! Her day had been horrible. Everything that could go wrong had. She felt like such a failure. She kissed the cheek of her baby as she picked him up at daycare. One more stop....the grocery store...and then home and hopefully some peace and quiet. She put the baby in the cart, and before she finished grabbing some vegetables, the baby was screaming. She tried everything she knew to quiet him....racing through the store, fully aware of the dirty looks people were giving her. The checkout line was long, and the baby was wailing. After several "looks" from others in the line, she picked the baby up and tried to console him. As she reached the checkout, she was juggling the baby, and trying to get the groceries on the counter as fast as she could. She felt a tap on her shoulder. She turned and met the smiling face of the woman in line behind her. "What a beautiful baby," she said. "Would you mind if I held him while you paid for your groceries?" The mother thought that nothing had ever been offered her as valuable as that kind word and smiled. Suddenly, she didn't feel like a failure anymore.....just a mom with too much to do. As she pulled up to the red light on a rainy day, her eyes were drawn to the bus stop at the side of the road. There stood a man with a small who he was sheltering under his jacket as best as he could against the rain pouring down. He himself was soaked. On impulse, she reached for the extra umbrella she had in the car....rolled down the passenger window and handed the umbrella out to the surprised man. He looked at her smiling face, and when she nodded her head, he took the umbrella gratefully! To give encouragement To someone who's lost the way Or would I be talking to a stone If I asked you To share a problem that's not your own We can change things if we start giving Why don't you Reach out and touch Somebody's hand. Make this world a better place, If you can. If you see an old friend on the street And he's down Remember his shoes could fit your feet Try a little kindness you'll see It's something that comes very naturally We can change things if we start giving Why don't you Reach out and touch Why don't you (come on Blogland!) Reach out and touch somebody's hand! Make this world a better place.......I KNOW you can!!! |

Nice bit of advice. One that really everyone should consider, myself included (even though I consider myself a pretty generous guy). "Today may be the first day of the rest of your life, unless you live on the other side of the International Date Line, then yesterday was the first day of the rest of your life."- Larry Andersen

Great post!!! Not too long ago I had a woman in a store try to help me out by holding my son. He was in his "only mommy" stage at the time and screamed bloody murder when the lady held him. It was nice to have the offer though. I always try to keep cranky babies happy in a check out line by playing peek-a-boo.

Great story about life. Whether you are successful in your own life or not, you can experience a feeling of satisfaction from helping any human being. The simple rule is that you are only required to sleep with yourself, and you will sleep better knowing that you had a positive impact on another person. Nice story. Be safe, relax and just have fun!

I really like this blog. I hug people all the time. Its a great thing and makes my life better and thiers I hope. I often hold hands with friends when talking too at least for a minute. We all need to love more even as just friends. Being a good human being is giving with all your heart. Yes we get hurt but the giving makes you rich. Well you have my view kinda a hopeless romantic huh?

Angel... a thought occurred to me. I wonder if there were a head count on all the people you have touched in your life, just how far would that line go? You are indeed an Angel. hug, my sweet friend.

Fantastic Post!!! I find myself always being there for my friends when they need me ... I know its not the same as pay it forward but I done a good deed and purchased a greyhound ticket for my friends ex boyfriend to come visit his daughter for 2 weeks. My daughter however experiences ALOT of kindness riding around on the metro here in town ... she rides the bus daily and she says not a day goes by that a stranger would carry her bags on the bus for her since she has her baby in her arms. The bus drivers give her "special" stops if she doesnt know where she is going (usually drops her off REAL close to where she has to go or at the front door!!) She even had a person pay her fare when she couldnt find her pass. I look forward to reading your posts!! YOU GO GIRL!! Take Care

The coolest thing...is that when you do those little things for someone else...it's amazing what comes BACK to YOU. Random acts of kindness are the bomb... I make mistakes, I am out of control & at times hard to handle. But if you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best. ~Marilyn

Yes, we all can. It doesn't have to be big, just a kind word or simple gesture when needed. It doesn't have to cost thing, but is priceless.
