Suk Mai Cock Poultry Farm

I have houseguests here from out of town. First of all, let me say that they are not very much trouble....but no matter....it still takes up alot of my time. And of course....hubby is out of town...and missing all of the fun. So, I apologize for not being here as often...and not getting to spend as much time in your blogs as I like to. I just looked at my Watched Blogs list...and it's all lit up yellow as the yolk of a chicken egg.

Which brings me to my point of the day. Our guests eat only organic food, and while I try to keep healthy food in my house....I can't afford ALL organic. I try to buy organic veggies and fruits whenever possible....but sometimes it is just too costly. But they eat out often...and I thought it would be nice to offer to cook for them tonight. So, I asked them if they'd like to just have dinner here and I would cook my world famous Honey French Chicken.. They asked if it was "free range chicken".

I said NO. But I'd offer to thrown the chicken breasts up in the air and give them one last chance to fly before I cooked them!!!

HAPPY HUMP DAY!

I attempt to eat organic when at home, and yes it is costly...but when in Rome, I do as the Roman's do!

I hope you don't overdo with your world famous chicken....

Happy Hump Day!!

Angel,

You are cooking chicken for your guests? That is nice. Have fun and enjoy. Maybe you will invite me over if I am nice here.

Also very weird name you have there as your blog title. Did you pick that up yourself, or find a store or restaurant with that name or something very similar?

I have lots of questions I could ask. But, I choose not to do so, because I want to keep you as a friend. I hope that means something to you.

Your friend,

Jon C.

I understand about organic foods being costly. My one son has chemical sensitvities and thank goodness that Target has alot more natural foods than the supermarkets.

I always try to give my houseguests what they are used to, even if it means spending a little more. This is probably the reason why I am broke.

angelofmercy5 replies on 6/7/2006 8:07 pm:
Firestarter...I do too...within reason. And honestly...these are great people...and they bring alot of their own food with them. I had no idea that Target had organic foods. I don't think our Target even has much in the way of food. Is it a super Target?

Angel, just tell them that you are only concerned about their safety. I read something recently that said that it was expected that free range chickens have a much greater risk of contacting avian flu that do regular caged chickens.

I love the icon, and the chicken sounds great, what time is dinner?

angelofmercy5 replies on 6/7/2006 8:08 pm:
VAT....I read that somewhere too! And dinner is served whatever time you can get here.

ROFLMAO double time!!!

I swear, if you throw up those chicken breasts, those folks will know you have pain killers hidden somewhere in the house ... hey, now there's an idea ... maybe the regular chicken can take one, and fly without your assistance... sounds free range to me

Take it easy, dear and don't over due yaself.

Fly free!

**THUMP**

...Or not.

Heh heh.

But hey, umm ... you could lie to them. Oh, yeah, sure, it's free range chicken...

Of course what I don't get is why it's okay for them to not eat organic stuff when they eat out? Or does every place that they eat at have to cook with only organic food too?

And how do they possibly manage that at home? Are they farmers or something?

I'm baffled. I mean it's a cool thing to support, and when you can afford it endulge, but ... reality check please.

angelofmercy5 replies on 6/7/2006 8:11 pm:
Vrec....I know that when they eat out they don't have organic food. So, they just make the best choices possible. Really...I did throw the chicken in the air.....but the darn bird didn't fly!

I also prefer organic foods. However, there are some subtle points.
A particular food product is classified as "organic" if the producer
can claim that is it organic above a certain percentage determined by
the FDA. Some organic products have essentially no differences from
other ones as far as the nutritional value is concerned. Others are
substantially different and you can taste the difference. Chicken is
a case like that. Often organic products are consumed by those who
have a lot of money (often to waste) and occasionally as a fashion
statement. Enjoy your chicken!!!

angelofmercy5 replies on 6/7/2006 8:01 pm:
Interested.....I think there are many of us that would prefer organic....but until the prices come back a little more in line....most of us can't! The chicken was great!

That is too funny. Somehow for Thanksgiving my wife sent me to the store to get a turkey and not being so educated in turkeys I bought some specialty organic free range turkey. There was no price on the turkey and I got up to the register and she rang it up and said $ 98.00 and some change. Now me being ignorent about turkeys coupled with the fact that I am unable due to pride to say wait a minute I am not paying $ 98.00 and change for a turkey. So I paid the money and called my wife and told her she was not happy of her decision to send me to buy a turkey. Of course I had to tell the people I work with so between them and my wife along with my kids I get mercilessly teased about my turkey. But on the other hand it was delicious.

angelofmercy5 replies on 6/7/2006 7:59 pm:
LMAO! Now that is funny.....$98 for a turkey! Well, I bet it did taste good. And just think....you made a thanksgiving memory that no one will ever forget!

I feel like a dumbie here, Whats free range chicken?.....is that where they did run free on the range or maybe just the farm, before having there heads cut off and plucked!

angelofmercy5 replies on 6/7/2006 9:04 pm:
Dark....yep! That's it. And they eat what they want, etc. Supposed to taste better and be better for you. In other words...they are not given hormones to make them grow faster so they can be killed faster! And they charge you about 3x what they charge for regular chicken.

You're not really lying if you tell them yes. I mean...chickens are "free" to go wherever they want within the compounds of their home...and if that home happens to have a "range" (Hot Point, Whirlpool, etc...) in it...well then yep...they are free to jump on the "range" and do a little fire dance. (Remember...ANYTHING in the world can be rationalized...)

I make mistakes, I am out of control & at times hard to handle. But if you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best. ~Marilyn

The Target by us is not a Super Target. The new Targets that they are building have large food sections. They don't have fresh foods (like meats or fruits), but they do have a brand Called Archer Farms which is pretty good about being organic. And being that it is sold at Target, it is not too costly.

angelofmercy5 replies on 6/8/2006 7:47 am:
Firestarter....how interesting. I'm going to have to go and look at our target. Thanks sweetie.

Your house guests would drive me nuts.

My response to the fre range would have been something like, Well, I payed for it so it wasn't free but it's definately going to be in the range shortly.
