Knight in Shining Armor

I see this theme all over Blogsville!

Our Knight in shining armor turns out to be a loser in aluminum foil!

So....what's the deal here? Do we just believe in fairy tales when we shouldn't? Do we expect too much from someone that we want to be the love of our life?

I am a woman who still touches the little girl inside of me. I do still believe in fairy tales. I do believe in Happy Ever After!

But that damn aluminum foil is recyclable stuff, isn't it?

Perhaps the knights-in-armor ratio to loser-in-foil is similar to kissable frogs vs. emerging princes.

...stay the course, Angel

I sincerely hope I'm more than aluminum foil. At least I try to be. I want to be someone's brass ring one of these days!

Granted, Knights are a vanishing breed, nearly on the endangered species list. Speaking as one who’s worn the armor (sterling not aluminum) for a quarter century; I find fewer damsels in distress and more just stressed damsels or those acting the part for attention. Rescue has to be on their terms (so many rules today) and instead of helping to polish the tarnished areas . . . well, recycling IS all the rage and disposable so very handy.

Do they want the entire knight or just the ‘sword’? With the abundance of AA batteries, I’m thinking even THAT isn’t needed (or wanted) all that much.

There’s still a boy in this Knight that looks for a Damsel in distress, waving her purple scarf and who is willing to let the Knight hold the reigns while on his own friggin’ mighty steed. He’s never been lost; he doesn’t need directions.

I believe in the fairy tale and the Happily Ever After ending too, but it’s getting foggier in my memory ever day.

Chivalry, Gallantry and Honor haven’t died; they simply aren’t in much demand; too long term?

Thanks for putting up with me and my point of view.

Your Knightly Friend

Horny...ok..we have joked alot here in Blogsville about the battery operated toys! But I would take the knight...the whole knight, not just the sword....over a "toy" any day. I think it is time we put the chivalry, gallantry and honor back in demand! We can have women's rights...and still be a woman and let a man be a man at the same time!

A knight in shiny armor is truely real fine
as can be, but please remember it takes a lot of trust
polish is all you see if it is only a line
A gentle knight on horseback allows his armor to rust

And stand in the corner as two together do love
each other with those bountiful pleasures so fine
and makes us long to just give all from above
and share a love so real, just yours and mine

I think it comes down to expectations. I think many of us want the fairy tale so badly that we see things in others that are perhaps not there. Yet, when things fall apart, we rarely think of ourselves as an accomplice to the collapse.

angelofmercy5 replies on 3/21/2006 4:51 am:
seek u.....WOW! What truth you have spoken here. You should write a blog on that very subject!

The aluminum foil shit tears too damn easily. We're holding out for latex. The shining armor guys and their damn swords HURT.

Hugs from us ...

There are still a few of us out there that, do believe in trying to lead the chivalrous type of life. Only we tend to be overlooked by the general female population. They say "Oh your such a great friend." And they also tend to think that guys like us are not "manly" enough for them because we have fellings toward other people, instead of just trying to get into thier pants. Sorry if this sounds cynical but, That's the view from here.

angelofmercy5 replies on 3/21/2006 4:45 am:
Cru....I don't think you sounded cynical. I think you were speaking the truth here....probably for many men. And you are right that we ladies sometimes overlook the "knight" of our dreams. I'm not sure what is up with that! And in some ways...getting to know someone here...and know their heart.....helps people to see what is right in front of their noses that they are just passing by. I can see that you are a man who would treat a woman right! And my hope is that some of the other ladies will see it too!

I stopped believing in fairy tales when the knight turned out to be a jackass with security issues, lol.

Jadedbabe....thats just awful isn't it? And it is happening all over blogsville! But just maybe you will find that one.....that will restore your faith in a knight!

My fair lady Angel...

Knights today aren't that much different than the ones in fairy tales. They still come when needed and they still perform their knightly acts. And they will forever be loyal to their heart... and to their promise to always be ready to do kind acts.

So the armour is different. So the white horse isn't a horse. They still believe they are doing what they're supposed to be doing.

I would say reluctantly, Angel, that you have found your knight in armour.... a long time ago. It's just that his armour isn't what it once was. But he still wears it.

He was just blinded by the call of false damsels in distress. And since things had been safe in his own castle, he tried to go and help. Once again, riding off to aid the maiden that needed his aide.

But it was a trick. An evil plot that took over his mind and wouldn't allow him to see what he had truly left behind. For that, he may still have to slay a few more dragons as repentance.

But if you look closer, and give him perhaps another chance, he may well still be that knight that rode up so many years ago, and took you away to far away fairy lands and made you feel safe.

Yes, there are still knights that roam far and wide. And many have true and kind hearts. And yes, to be a knight under your loving charms is a noble and desired thing to have. I know that to be very true.

And to be "your" knight is something that is cherished. It is the true strength of the armour that is worn. For the love of the damsel makes the Knight's armour strong and shining. For you see, it isn't the metal it's made of... it's the strength of the heart and soul that makes the knight's armour sure and strong.

Is it possible to have two or more knights per damsel? I would say yes. Many knights serve and protect their queen ... and with pride and honor. And if one knight fails, the other shall be there standing at the ready.

Camelot wasn't perfect...though it may have been about as close as anything can be. We each search for our Camelot... damsels and knights both. Many of us find only windmills. But with each windmill, and with each impossible dream, comes the everlasting hope of a quest fulfilled.

A gentle bow of loyalty, from your other knight

Unlistedone....this response was so beautiful that it should have been a blog in itself! But, I am taking the story to heart. And I'm thankful that one damsel can have more than one knight....because you my knight....are definitely NOT going to be recycled!!! 143

Angel... Aluminum is not a bad deal. Granted, it isn't very sturdy, it punctures easy (I see myself in the Heavy Duty stuff). The strength in the Aluminum is that it can be formed into just about anything you wish. I guess I am volunteering to be your knight in aluminum armor; use me, crumple me, roll me in a ball and recycle me.

angelofmercy5 replies on 3/21/2006 4:37 am:
I don't think I should recycle you......have you seen what they do with that stuff??? However...crumpling you and rolling you into a ball sounds fun. Or maybe just having a ball would be better!!!

Today's knights come in dull painted armor, or dyed flak jackets. Some of the armor on their vehicles is alumimun, albeit rather thicker than foil. The rest of us drive little cars with body panels thinner than the toys we played with 40+ years ago. Besides, it took hours to get into all that old metal armor, and a crane to lift the armored knight onto his poor horse.
