I would seriously find it difficult to teach our English to any foreigner. Too many deviations there,they're their. for starters. But for any of us to shame or blame others is just WRONG. Anyone know the epicenter of our ignorance? (Virtual Symposium Group) use Virtual Symposium Group

Reply to response to lonely..... Yes I was surprised that I found that definition, there were many places that only referred to the REAL meaning as we all learned.. I guess shit happens to everything, have a good evening stay safe.. "have ya working shoes on and ready to work by easter" !!!!!! Young Man, it is a News program, they have to make it sound as technical or something, just the way these guys talk.. By definition: epicenter [ˈepəˌsen(t)ər] NOUN the point on the earth's surface vertically above the focus of an earthquake. the central point of something, typically a difficult or unpleasant situation. "the patient was at the epicenter of concern" and yet, while trying to be "more credible", they sometimes achieve exactly the opposite. unfortunately, not because its the wrong word, but because its a word too big for people who denounce and distrust the intelligent to understand and helps them perpetuate the "fake news" illusion. and yes, i see the definition you googled has ALREADY embraced the incorrect usage. making words in english mean more than one thing, or in fact many different things, is how politicians, lawyers and advertisers are able to use words as weapons so easily and effectively. during the covid crisis, of course, economic chaos and human suffering and loss of lives is paramount, but since so many of us have so much spare time . . .  whats with every news source suddenly misusing the word "epicenter"? oh sure, it sounds more dramatic than just "center", but if someplace is called the "epicenter", say of a hotbed of covid activity, it implies that the ACTUAL center is below it underground, usually by miles. its a geological term, applied to earthquakes (and nuclear tests).. goggle it and see before the dictionaries begin to accept the misuse. sadly, for perspective, many americans make fun of foreigners, usually asians, for mispronouncing or misusing english words, which is really rude, since almost none of us speak chinese, japanese or indian.  in a global community, were the only ones who (mostly) speak only one language, the least we could do is get it right? ok, its nowhere near the most import issue of our times, but its just annoying as hell.  as the late great redd foxx, playing fred sanford, once said, "once you learn english good, cant nobody take it away from you".
