I looked at the trap Ray ! Monsters dwell in every heart . We only think civilization tames them . One of the vendors I work closely with in my job is a front for or is somehow controlled by a being of some sort . A couple other people who's seen it think that it looks like the crystalline entity from Star Trek as seen in the episodes the Silicon Avatar and Datalore but that's not really right . It sort of looks like the pelvic splanchnic ganglion in shape only greatly increased and size and its kind of a yellow color . Actually now that I think about it its almost exactly the same as the yellow bar telling me 'Messages to your email address are bouncing - Reactivate your email so we can let you know when members contact you. Fix it now" but that's probably a coincidence . I described it to an artistic friend of mine and she drew it , and it was a good drawing but it didn't really look like this thing so I won't post it here because it gives the wrong impression . Some of the people that work for this company are what I call shells (other people call them puppets) in that they look like people and their hair and skin and so forth seem to be real , but underneath that there's just an inch of brownish claylike stuff and then they're completely hollow . Its honestly looks like shit but it doesn't smell bad . In the course of normal business proceedings you'd never know because all you do is shake hands and whatnot but I found this out because one time one of these shells (and thereby the creature I guess) were getting shaggy and it just didn't feel right . I didn't stop of course , I mean action is action right ? Later on I saw one of them get torn open . I believe the creature uses them to interact with the world like we use our extremities . That's why I don't like the term puppet for these "people" because that to me implies a level of removal that doesn't exist - it doesn't control them like that you know , they are a part of it . That's just my opinion though . The other people who know about it think its an alien but I disagree with that also . I can't put my finder on why really but I feel like its from another dimension . I said before that some of the people that work for this company are shells - I found that out the hard way . I was at their building a while back and this lady-shell (I thought) was bent over doing whatever and I grabbed all up on her and I realized immediately that she was a real lady . Thankfully she was into it , otherwise there would have been big trouble . Its one of those things that you find out about it and the totally freak , but then you just kind of forget about it you know ? Because what can you do ? If you tell anyone they don't believe and you can't prove anything really . Its kind of sad really , these crazy amazing things happen once in a while and in not that much time it becomes hum-drum and meaningless . Anyway I bring this up because this vendor is sending some people out to visit out site in June and they've invited everyone out to the dinner and it just kind of got me thinking about the whole deal again . Do the shells eat ? If so what happens to the food ? Or are they sending only real people ? Do the people know about the creature or are they all dupes of some kind ? I feel like some of them maybe know something weird is going on but they don't know what and they don't want to lose their job so they don't think about it . And what the hell is the point ? Why would this creature , whatever it may be , run an insurance company ? What possible reason could there be ? And you know the really weird part ? They're good to work with but not great . I feel like a company run by some kind of monster with fantastical powers should either be the best or the worst . Said company being #3 in the market just seems odd . I joined the Book this morning for the single and solitary purpose of trying to get Paul F Tompkins to come to Des Moines for a show . He has a deal where if you start a Book group and get 300 people to pledge to buy tickets he'll book said show . At least I hope he still does that , otherwise I joined for nothing . I already regret it . My only reason for being there is for this Tompkins300 deal , that is it . And already I had a dude call me - AT WORK - to ask why I hadn't accepted his friend request . I said to him "Are you going to pledge to see Paul F Tompkins ?" and he said that he was not so I told him I didn't want to be his Book friend then . And he got pissed . I said to him I said "Dude , we are friend IN REAL LIFE , who cares ?" I just want to see Paul F Tompkins , I don't want to know you like a picture of your grandpa catching a Permit fish . I don't want to see pictures of your . I don't give a shit about whatever stupid things you copy and paste off the Tube . I just want to see a comedy show . Also it looks like the whole thing is doomed to failure . I thought I would be creating the PFT-DSM page , but there already was one . It was created in 2011 and it had 13 members . Wont-waaa . So in five years they've made it not even 5% of the way to their goal . And its not like I can really do anything about it . How do you promote something on the Book ? I don't know . It seems like the only way to make it work is to be super active on the Book and make tons of "friends" . And clearly that ain't gonna happen . At work an announcement went out about a dude being promoted . He didn't deserve a promotion but he deserved it more than 90% of other people who have been promoted so I was sort of happy for him I guess ? He's one of the few people like me who've been in the department for a long time so I replied to said e-mail with a "funny" story about how back in 2009 when he first started our dumb supervisor at the time (who's now the dumb head of the department) sent us on a wild goose chase to bring a guy to a meeting who didn't exist . In the next few minutes I was flooded with responses of two types ; One saying how hilarious it was One saying how crazy I am It annoyed me (what doesn't right ?) because it was mildly amusing at best and how is telling a straightforward story about something that actually happened "crazy" ? It was just a reminder of how truly moronic an office setting is . There's so much drudgery and soul-numbing going on that anytime anyone does anything just slightly outside the norm its pandemonium . Tell the mildest of jokes and people fall on the ground laughing like hyenas . Do something that wouldn't even be noticed in the real world and people say you're "insane" . I think they're just so desperate to react to something that they'll react to anything . Its kind of depressing . I get into the nature V nurture discussion several times a month and its foolhardy because no one ever changes their mind on that . So why do I keeping doing it ? Just the way I was raised I guess . HAHAHAHA ! Anyway , I got into this with several people recently because I found out on mother's day that if not for the Vietnam war I would have grown up on a farm in nowheretown . I said something to the effect of "can you imagine what I would be like ?" and I was told I would be the same . I think the real issue if that people have different ideas of what "being the same" means . One dude said to me "You'd act differently and think differently but you'd be the same on the inside" . What the fuck does that mean ? What else is there besides the way you act and the way you think ? I feel like what people are really saying is that they like of illusion that they have some control of their lives and they would make the same choices in a different situation . And finally , this . An old friend of mine is in town to visit from California . He rarely travels and stupid me , I just realized why today - he NEEDS to smoke every day and while its not "legal" in CA it pretty much is . Anyway , when he was a , before I knew him , he and his friends beat up a retarded - because that's the kind of thing do . are assholes . And he got caught because he's a fatty so he was the only one witnesses could ID . Think about it , if you see some wailing on another for 20 seconds , unless one of them has a distinguishing feature you're not going to be able to pick them out of a line-up . I guess its common sense but I never thought about it until I heard about this . If you're going to commit crimes you want to be as non-descript looking as possible . No<b> tattoos </font></b>, no mohawks , no weird piercings , you want to look like a boring old nothing . By the by this dude didn't beat up a retarded because he was a sociopath but rather because he was one of those who just did whatever his friends were doing . He eventually grew out of it and became a lovable stoner , but back in them days he was one of them go-along guys . When I first met him he was way into skateboarding and skate culture . At least I thought he was . Years later we went on a road trip to Kisatchie and we got deep into "it" and I come to learn that he didn't even like skateboarding - he just knew that if he acted like that he could hang with the skate . It wasn't until he met the woman who is know his wife that he started to realize he could do things that HE liked and people would like him for who he is .  You see he was one way and then he had an experience that changed him to be another way . Its almost like our experiences make us who we are . . . Putting first by putting employees first, immediately after prioritizing fiscal responsibilities and leveraging profitability towards exceeding by empowering our employees to put (and themselves) first, in a diverse and respectful environment of only those that come first, first. |

^ It's a good question, I think "experience" is a separate dimension from nature or nurture. I look at my life; I went through a phase of being a drinking, smoking, going out every night and see bands person; then I went through a phase of being pretty healthy and doing lots and lots of biking, running, and cross country skiing. I think both of those were more a function of who I was hanging out with than of my genes or how I was raised. Similar to 40's story about his friend.
