The Straw That Broke The Camel's Back

I had a meltdown at work Tuesday. Literally. I had just spent two hours rearranging the stuff in storage, bending over moving boxes, the whole manual labor bit.

The job was finished and i was sitting down for a minute to let my head stop spinning and my back not ache from being stooped over. I was sitting at my work bench and pushing some laptops towards completion. My thought was a little mental work will give my back a break from the physical work.

The manager comes by and begins to chew me out because i'm working on a computer instead of processing the shipment he wants. He informs me that i am not allowed to work on any computers until everything else is done.

So i get up and start working on the incoming shipments like i was doing before i took the break. a minute later i get called into the owners office and told that i need to concentrate on shipping instead of rebuilds. I explain to the boss what's going on and he sends me back to work.

A couple of hours later,it's after closing, most of the employees have gone home and the manager is in my face wanting to know where his parts are. I told him i sent them up front after i finished with them. He says he never got them, so i went up front and looked for them. I couldn't find the box they were in. The manager is goign off like this one part missing is the end of the world. So i look for it, after spending 15 minutes searching i explained to him "i looked, i can't find it, let's ask the guys tomorrow when they come in" as i figured it went up front and got put somewhere. The manager continues yelling at me about it. I walked to the time clock, punched my card and went home. That was monday.

Tuesday i get to work and find those missing parts since the guy who stocked them knows exactly where he left them. But the manager arrives and the first thing i'm hit with is i'm no longer allowed to rebuild computers, my only task is to sit in the warehouse office and get everything caught up. Fine, whatever, it all pays the same. So i get started on it. I got a couple of batches of paperwork finished and sent off. So i then turn to the RMAs. RMA stands for Return Material Authorization, which is how defective product gets returned to our vendors for replacement or refund.

First up on the RMA list is a bunch of laptop batteries. After contacting the vendor i was advised to update the laptops software and that should solve the problem with the battery.

So i went to get a laptop to try the suggestion. The manager blocked me saying "you're not allowed to touch my laptops, ship the batteries back, i say they're bad, that's all you need"

The manager is ignoring the fact that if we send good product back to the vendor we get hit with a bench fee and have to pay the return shipping on the non-defective product. Or forfeit the product. This is what we agreed to when we purchased from this vendor.

I go to the owner with this problem, he says "test the batteries with the updated laptop" but the manager barges in and demands that i talk with him in the warehouse right now.

I excuse myself from the owner's office and head to the warehouse. The manager gets in my face with "i told you that you were not allowed to touch any computers, get in your office and do your job"

That was it. I was done. I can't even do the job i'm told to do because this fool is too busy trying to keep me suppressed. I told him, "fuck you , you do it" . I punched out and went home.

The owner called me later that day asking me if i had quit. I waffled and told him "i don't know, i definitely need a mental health day"

So i missed Wednesday at work, and Thursday. This morning i'm going in for a meeting with the owner. I plan on turning in my key and gathering my personal stuff. I'll miss that job (spent 6 years working there) but it's time to move on.
