Decking the Halls

Well normally I get my christmas tree all set up thanksgiving night but this year it had to wait til the next day since my family didn't celebrate til thanksgiving night.

Anyways, I decided to decorate a little outside this year. I've always wanted to but never really could in my apartments in the past. Now I've had my own place for 5 years and finally I wanted to make the effort. Since I don't have any outside plug ends I had to do what I call "day time decorating". I wrapped my porch rails in garland, and hung oversized ornaments and these strands of bells and bows from it. I also hung out my new battery opperated wreath and filled my flower boxes with poinsettas. Honestly for my first attempt I think it ended up looking really good. And guess what my whole porch cost me $18 bucks to decorate...not including the wreath since Mom got it for me as a gift.

The same day I put up some of my indoors decorations. I have this sign post that has 3 direction arrows on it one says "North Pole", the second says "Mistletoe Lane" and the third says "Sleigh Rides". I think it's kinda cute.

I also put up my christmas tree, no I don't use a real tree because they kill my allergies. So I get everything out in the living room and I start by fluffing out every branch of the tree and then start from the bottom and start arranging the branches to make it looke nice and full but not so perfect. Then I string on the lights, I have some that have like 14 different settings of twinkling....who really needs that many settings though. Anyways, back to decorating the tree, I start working on my tree and as I'm putting on the ornaments I'm thinking "wow my tree is really looking nice this year". I get finished and step back to soak in my handi work. Yup looks pretty good.

*vent* Everyone knows me though, even when I try to remain positive about things during the holidays it's hard for me to not have a lower thought....well this year here's what starts running through my head.....why do I continue to put up a 7ft christmas tree and deck it all out and do the decorations when it's just me here.....it's not like there's or family that comes over to see it. I'm the only one who ever sees the indoor decorations and for once I'm wondering why I even attempt it since I'm the only one who'll get to see it. See to me christmas is a time for family and friends and enjoying the time of year....but I'm the odd ball out in my family cause no one else seems to really enjoy the holiday. Every year I volunteer to host christmas dinner and all for my family, and every year when it comes time for it someone else steps in and hosts leaving me going "wtf". It's happening again this year, but this year it's understandable because with Dad's condition and all. Guess my whole point is just once I'd love to be able to share my enjoyment of the season with some of those I care about the most instead of it being just me. *end vent*

All in all my tree is nice, my sign post is nice, and my porch looks nice for my first effort.....so I'm going to try to not think of the other stuff and just enjoy the season.

I think you decorate for you, because it makes you feel good. Don’t get down on yourself, keep a positive attitude, think outside the box for invitations this year. “If you build it, they will come”.
