Dry Rub or Oil

Personally whilst masturbating I enjoy the dry rub.

Once that juicy pre-cum starts flowing then all best are off and I can then use that to rub gently up and down the underside of the head.

I find that while oiling I get more sticky, likely the oil I use, but never really into it for masterbation purposes. Now, a good set of someone else's hands using oil is a different story.

In my limited edging experience I find that the ability to pull back the skin hard and ride the wave is much easier with a dry rub than sliding on down and the thrusting of my cock pulling all the skin out from under my hand not the same feeling.
